Off Road Preparation Help Needed

Hi,

Ive got a Disco 200. I need help with my first baby steps in changing it in to an even more capable off roader. Its an all standard 3 door late Disco 1 and I want to start modifying it and dont know where to start.

Please can some one help and point me in the right direction to what I should change first. Im not loaded so cant do it all at once even though I would want to.

Recovery points first, then tyres.

Jate rings front and rear.

AT tyres

Diff guards

steering guard

Snorkel.


In that order.

If by offroad you mean pay and play sites. Then subsitute the AT's for mud tyres

Should I be concerned about rust. Havent checked but Ive heard Landys of my year can be rotten thru and thru.

Well as you are already in possession of a Discovery and although you say you haven't checked I am sure the rust should become apparent if there is any.

Look at all the places on your Discovery where there should be metal and if there isn't any then yes you have got rust.

You will need to cut the arches to allow room for new tyres.

But first remove the from lower bumper!!

Tow bar is suitable for rear recovery point and jate rings for front (cheap)

If you take the tyres off completely and just drive on the standard wheels you get a lot better control off road....













As long as the off road is a railway line!

Didn't realise rust was an off road accessory!

Hmmm. If you're new to it you need to decide what you're going to be doing, you don't need a challenge truck to do green lanes!!!! Budget and technical ability also come into it? Protection and recovery points are a good starting point, plus removing the tow hitch cos it acts like a plough! When it comes to tyres and suspension that's decision time. Cos in six months you may decide you should've got the bigger ones! Doh more money! That's why you need to think long and hard about it! Plus if it's going to be your car, mud terrains and big lifts don't do much for road manners you'll need to find a happy compromise! Go to some pay and play sites see what others have done. Most people will talk for hours about what and why they've done it and take you for a spin cos it's their favourite toy! You may decide that's not your thing and you'll stick with green lanes (unlikely) but that's far cheaper!
I know what suits me but it may not suit you, if that makes sense! W
So go do some thinking before you get your wallet out

If just laning you wont need much more than decent tyres, recovery points and along tow strop.
