Showing my boys vid's today of what a range rover can do off road and he loved it, now wants me to go through rivers !!
What's the best or most ridiculous Range "off road" vid you've seen???

Hi

Must admit I wouldn’t go through rivers in such a nice motor, alas don’t know what’s hidden underneath along with the risk of hydro locking an engine

I’ll get my coat , lol

Unlikely it'll be rivers, maybe some nice tidy fords, but not murky rivers lol

My advice:

Do an off road experience day with an instructor first before you head out on a trip....and never lane alone unless it is a mild one - have a phone on you and let some one know your route and you expected arrival times etc.

But, do get some training in beforehand to ensure you are familiar with the basics.

Have thought about a proper course, would be good to understand what the car can do and be in control of it - never know when it might come in handy

Depends what sort of Range Rovers. The L322 onwards are capable but mostly due to the electronics on them. They aren’t however as rugged and robust as earlier examples. Lots of vulnerable plastic trim and the independent suspension ultimately reduces their capabilities.

When I worked on my transmission I noticed a big bung in the floor where a cable runs through was not in place, this is directly above the transmission and nothing you would stumble across. There is a fair amount of electronics which were probably designed for a certain wade depth but that’s only if they haven’t been disturbed, swapped for an aftermarket part or not put back correctly, same applies for the transmission and diff breathers and various engine seals and o rings. The air intake or accidental water ingress into the air intake will be the most fatal due to hydraulic locking as mentioned and water in your transmission will not be fun . The subframes do rust as to other under body parts. Even ABS sensors , height sensors and transmission / transfer box wiring are relatively low to the ground and vulnerable to submersion. All that said I think the odd shallow ford wouldn’t cause too much grief but if you are going to wading deoth I would check all your breathers and above mentioned electrics and obviously Gen up on the safety precautions and correct methods for river crossings and have a go. With your young lad on board safety first, second and third as I’m sure you already think.
Have a paddle and post up some fots :)
