Hi,

I'm new to Land Rover's and have noticed something, and I'm trying to decide if I need to be worried or not. When I'm travelling at highway speeds, in the 100-120km/hr range, there is a very lound vibration/humming kind of sound with a period of around 1 hz.

Is this a normal kind of sound, or a warning that I'm about to scatter parts all over the freeway?

Firstly..i did chuckle at the 'high speed' bit...thanks..

What tyres you got on it? I wouldn't be too worried...if you can hear anything over the engine at that speed its a bonus.

I'm now wondering if it could be from a bad bearing? I recently found out that the form the previous owner gave me from the last inspection says (in plain dutch, so I didn't know) that at least one of the wheel bearings has to be fixed.

And yeah... I think 125 km/h is about the fastest this truck is going to see.

Picked up a bottle jack and a couple stands yesterday so I could take a look... the front left bearings are definitely the problem. The back right also had a small amount of play... how much is too much? I thought a little bit of play was normal. The other wheels were pretty solid... couldn't move 'em.

Ordering parts now, only have to figure out what tools I need to buy to press the bearings in/out of place... don't have the room for a hydrolic press! I seem to recall reading about doing this with home-made tools, will have to poke around and see if I can find them again.
