hi guys i was looking at getting some fault code readers for my dico series 2 v8 auto 2000 plate but can someone tell me if it odb 1 or 2.i thought it was 2 but the guy selling the reader said i had a odb1.just wanna be sure before i buy.sods law it changed half way through year 2000 so could be either but id be grateful for some advice

Have a look at the obd connector on your vehicle, if its not a 16 pin 'd' shaped thing then its obd1 or obd 1.5, if its a 16 pin 'd' shape connectopr then look at the pins they are numbered, some of them are fitted and some are not, you can tell obd1 from obd2 from the missing pins.
obd1 sockets have pins 8,9, 12 and 13 fitted, and obd2 sockets do not.
Some cars have all the pins fitted in the socket, the only way to find out which one these are is to plug them in.
I recently got for a mate a diagnostic tool posted from china off ebay, alltogether it was 20 quid, and does all the obd standards 1 and 2, vpw, ppm and serial.
Oh yeah your in the wrong place, you wanna be in the disco section.
I have a diagnostic tool for my series 3, it says '32 ounce' on the side.

Think you will find it's OBD2.

But be warned a cheap 50 quid fault code reader won't really tell you all that much, just the bare minimum of engine codes related to emmissions..

To read all the systems on your Disco you would need a Nanocom (not much good for V8's though) Blackbox soloutions faultmate or Hawkeye (not sure how much they can do though).

Glad I found this thread ... my neighbour has a Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TDi and is fed up of getting the garage to plug in their reader and reset the ABS light. They can never find the fault but just reset the light and charge him £50 a go. After a week or so the light comes back on.
I managed to find some free sopftware via the Vauxhall Forum for my Carlton and Omega so I can reset airbags, ABS etc faults ... anyone know of any free , Shareware or cheap software for reseting the ABS light on the Land Rover?

I would also like to know as my ABS light is stuck on, but the ABS works perfectly.. Very frustrating problem

Standard OBD1 & 2 readers wont work-you need Nanocom or similar

We have a cheapo OBDII reader which we use on our V8 with a small netbook (Acer Aspire One)

Mainly useful for the engine and LPG tuning, well worth the dosh in my view.

The LPG system has a separate cable to the controller.
