Bugger. Now we can have space for repairs and the like, but not, it
would appear, for wet weather gathering - barns full of moo cows
apparently.

I could always get one of those Costco tents and bring that. The one I
house our ambi in is 'ucked unfortunately, but at 120 quid inc. another
tent is not going to break the bank, and I can always flog it
afterwards. What does the team think ?

'twill need heating inside though. Anyone got one of those jet engine
style heater thingies ?

I'd like to point out that mid October in South Wales is going to
challenge the comfort barrier a tad. Now I'm getting old, and
basically, a bit of a softie... I'd like to firm down a little on the
finer points.

We believed we had access to a barn. Now we don't.

Is it likely that we may find there isn't any water / toilets /
showers?

These types of events, in my experience, although well intentioned,
without some kind of firm agreement of what can be expected, can turn
into a bit of a nightmare. If/when this happens it can often all turn
nastily on the 'organiser' - which is well out of order - but an
understandable reaction in the heat of the moment all the same.

Having used the Costco tents a few times (most recently at
Peterborough) I'd have to say that they're ok for half a dozen people,
10 at a real push, but not in any way suitable for more.

An event like this - for us, is all about the social aspect. I'm not
sure, if it ****es down with rain, that I want to spend the weekend
sat in the back of Grumble again...

Now, what was that pub, with the campsite attached? Would it be
feasible to relocate there? (or would potentially mentioning a
relocation there free the barn I wonder?)...

Hope you don't see this as ****ing on your chips, but I've had too
many years of sitting in a tent on campsites that advertise a
clubhouse, only to find it was closed that decade... (metaphor).

I'm obviously thinking about the comfort of the kiddies, and not being
a selfish old bastard.

Well I did see them when I went to check the route. Not large admittedly.

www.trefach.co.uk ? You couldn't actually beat it as a campsite,
assuming its open. I shall enquire tomorrow. Too late now. This is a
better idea for camping I think, though there is a pub on site and they
may well object to us bringing our own beer. But you don't ask you don't
get....

I'm inclined to say stuff it, and move the camping to Trefach, if
they'll have us. I think they will, since I am going back a fortnight
later on an astronomy do, when we will be staying on site.

Certainly seems a better option. Last time we caravanned in Wales in October
we had 90mph winds and were advised not to put the Awning up. If we assume
we could end up with similar and plan around that then we should do well.

Faffing to plan is pailing to hail as they say.

;0)

What would really make it special would be if they had a communal room we
could scrum down in with a bar :0) . I dunno how big the bar is. It looks
like kids are welcomed in the Pub though so maybe not a dead loss. I'm sure
the kids could survive without a big screen if it came to it. Ours managed
two whole days at Stoneleigh of me recounting tales of "When your Grandad
was litlle they had no TV blah blah blah ...gas lanterns blah blah"

How big is your cost co tent? any links to piccys? Could have done with
Anchor supplies or similar as a sponsor providing a large tent for the event
)

implies that it's open; price quoted is 8 quid a night for touring vans,
which I assume goes for motorhomes etc as well.

If they've got somewhere we can have an undercover barbie...

K-quads stand to make a fair wedge, it seems to me, from this and I reckon
they should make a bit of effort. OK, their camping is a bit cheaper, but
not a lot.

They offered the barn, ISTR, but I suppose it might have been misinterpreted
as to what we wanted it for. 'course, if it's fine weather, open-air barbie
and stuff is OK anyway.

When they offered it, it wasn't going to be as a centre for the
weekend's activity though, now we want to use it for much more, and,
being a working farm, the barns are actually working.

18 X 9 feet x 6 feet at the edges. An ambi can fit in it, with room to
spare, not much, but room to spare.

Well, I've acquired 2 bags of instant-light and a bigger bag of briquettes,
which should run my barbie for an evening...

's fair enough. Likesay, it's probably a communication thing. Also, people
have perhaps expanded the possibilities of "barn".

Exactly, but quite validly really, under the likely circumstances of an
October weekend in the south of Wales.

well, yeah, and the implication was of a barn available to use, without
restriction, I thought.. Heyho.

see what they say, I reckon. Chances are they make a good bit less out of
us - most people are not going to go for more than 1 day off-roading,
especially if we're staying elsewhere.

Which pub was the proposed sunday lunch? same one as the camspite, or
another?

Same as the campsite - but that's 8 quid a night, not the 5 at K-Quads.
That said, the facilities at Trefach are much better.

Got to admit, when you first posted the campsite / pub / lunch URL I'd
marked it down as somewhere to add to my list of potential havens
whilst doing Pembrokeshire. I'd happily part with an extra 3 quid a
night for a little more comfort, Dunno how they'd feel about all these
huge, muddy Landies though :)

I must also admit to being a little uneasy about bringing all this up
at the last minute as it were - especially as I've done bugger-all to
help organise it. We'll be turning up wherever it is, and whatever
the weather, regardless.

In the winter, the pub is a farmer's pub anyway. They've got to be used
to muddy Landies.

Anyway, I've told K-quads we aren't camping there now, we'll see if he
comes back with any further help, but otherwise Trefach it is.

Including Purple ones?

Like I said, I was only asking as I'm a miserable selfish old bastard,
but I think a site specifically geared toward leisure / social /
camping is a good move. If the SHTF and the weather is rather crap,
at least we can help boost their bar takings. I'll more than happily
stand the first couple of rounds for the Taylor Family, in recognition
of you pulling all this together :)

If we all bring whatever gaze-bows we have and so forth, it should ensure
fine weather. Don't suppose any of the contingent have one of those
sod-off-big army tents?

No problems here, seems sensible. Doubt we will be off roading as such now
due to the Rangie having gone. Mrs D's Disco has chassis lpg tanks so I
don't fancy pushing my luck.

Carbs for Morph are ready for collection so fingers crossed tomorrow I can
get them on. Still needs plug leads (Richard get right on it!), Oil cooler
pipes and tow bar reinforcing bars.

Taxed Percy today because I could.... still no where near running and still
needing a chassis but hey at least it was free!
