Now that's a bit different......

trouble is, the "old" 6.2/6.5 Detroit Deisels are very old. GM stopped using them in the 80's or 90's. I think. Not bad in their day, but under powered compared to todays' diesels. Although they are quite torquey.

The newer 6.6 litre Duramax series of engines is a completely different ball game. But you never see those in the UK.

there used to be a chap - samurai I think - who seemed to specialise in sticking the 6.2 and 6.5 in landies, may have been 90's and 110's he advertised in lroi when I used to get it around 16-18 years ago

370 ft/lb's of torque iirc

sure I have seen some early 2000's suburbans still with the big old diesel in em, but the engines were probably made late 90's

Just checked the the old Detroit Diesel was replaced in 2001. But it was still an old engine, sort of akin to the Land Rover 2.5TD in tech & performance terms.

The Duramax line of engines is completely different and massively more powerful.
Duramax V8 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 2001 the 6.6 Duramax V8 diesel with 32v and common rail injection. Turbo intercooled.

300hp & 520lb-ft makes the old 6.2 Detroit with 150hp look pretty weedy.

The 2014 LML variant, still 6.6 litres but with 397hp & 765lb-ft!!!! And it's still quite tunable. Doing the same sort of thing we do to a Td5 will net you over 500hp and 1000lb ft!!!! :D
