I feel like I’m playing rugby again. It’s all this the thrutching about with engins.
Massive faff getting the engine back on my own but got there in the end. Head back on today along with timing it all up and wacking the cover back on.
Tomorrow will be pump timing. Never done one before so anything else that gets done will be a bonus. Might manage the rocker clearances.

I need to get back to work for a rest

Well that’s me stumped. Went to set the flywheel to 13, 14 or 15 degrees before top dead centre and there is no mark.

Bu@@er

There is a TDC mark on the flywheel along with the mark for setting the cam. Is it ECT or something? It isn’t stamped with any letters, just the line. I have successfully used this several times for changing the chain.
If it was diesel it should have several markings around the 14 degree position. it hasn’t, so I presume a petrol flywheel as when timing the distributor you only need TDC, or so I am led to believe.
diesel pumps need to be set from the 14 degree mark and I ain’t got one. I did think it’s been butchered before because the casing has the plunger hole but the only gap on the edge on the wheel for the plunger to lock into ain’t in the right place.

I’ve printed off a couple of circles with an accurate 14 degree line and I’ll try cutting them out tomorrow and positioning them on the crank pulley.
once the circles vertical line is matched with TDC I should be able to rotate the crank to the 14 line.

good job I’m ruddy awesome :D:D:D

As I needed to research my issue, I had to do other stuff today.
Put the dipstick tube back on, manifolds, alternator and sat the injectors back in. Not tightened down as 2 and 3 might get in the way and I’m sick of buying washer sets for the bleedin things.
That was after several hours of head scratching of course.

I must say the Turners cam and sprocket are fantastic. Along with their chain it’s hard to go wrong when setting up the timing. With only one keyway in the sprocket, if it ain’t tight first try, you’ve miss aligned something.
