hi you guys, can anybody help ! range rover was dead this morning a warning came up saying traction failure , got a power pack and charged up the battery and entered the code now it is starting but not catching ! will i have to tow it to the 4x4 centre tommorow to go on the computer and be charged a fortune or is it something i am missing ! p.s changed the ht leads last week has that caused it !

did it start and run after changing the HT leads??

the fault message you described is probably because the voltage was low due to a flat battery.

Now it charged you say it cranks but wont fire, what year P38 is it you have?? Is the check engine light showing when the ignition is turned on??

hi will yes it did start ,but i still have 2 to change (work royal mail night shift , up to my eyes in mail ), its a 4.6 vogue 2000 reg and the engine light did come on !

Sounds like you need to get the vehicle to a garage that has the correct diagnostic equipment to re-synch the BeCM and engine ECU security codes. They can can lost when the battery drains slowly.

See http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/cranks-but-won-t-start-67481.html this person has had exactly the same issue as you.

When towing it to a garage make sure its either flatbeded OR if towing on all 4 wheels then insert the fuse to put the transfer case into neutral. See your handbook on how to do this.

It will literally take around 2 minutes, if that to sort out the problem (assuming it it the engine ECU and BeCM that have fallen out) so don't get robbed by some sneaky garage trying to make a fast few ££!

have a look at this page regarding the codes!! Security and Alarm System Operation & Diagnosis on Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38A

now, to put the car in tow mode, under the seat, put a 10 amp fuse in position 11, put key in ignition and it should saw 'towing mode' or something similar.

you can get the eka code from yr local dealer it should be free althouh you may have to prove ownership at thier office.

if you call them(or get a friendly mechanic to) then say you have changed the battery and need the code, the customer(you) is expecting the car back at ??o'clock and you need the code to get the car running again. this usually works with most dealers. you will need the vin number from the little card in the windscreen, copy it exactly as it appears as one digit can make the difference!!
