help, got home last night, no issues, parked on drive, needed to go out to shop and I have all electrics, but not glow plug symbol when turn key, not clicking or anything??

It's as if an immobiliser has activated???

Any idea?

Very strange.... Just gone to check before calling AA, unlocked, glow plus light on, and started no problems???

Any gremlins I need to check?

Thanks guys, could be the issue, all other lights come on when I turn the key, just the glow plug lights do not come on... Thanks for the help

Has the car been beeping at you when you get into it? If the fob battery is getting low it will beep when you enter and then ultimately it won'tun-imobilise the car. Depends on age of Freelander and you should get a solid led lit on the dash to show that its immobilised.

Yes it does beep when I am getting in after unlocking, wondered what that was for, I will get the battery changed.

Ok, did it again, changed fob battery, no difference. Key in and out hard and managed to start. Will order switch.

The immobiliser will disengage weather there is a working battery in the fob or not. The immobiliser transponder is powered by the car, not the internal battery. It sounds like your ignition switch is at fault to me.

Are you sure this is true for all Freelander's Nodge? I'm pretty sure my '99 L Series needs a working battery in the fob for the imobiliser to allow the car to start. When the battery is getting low it beeps, and when its gone to low, I turn the key and nothing happens other than the blinking alarm LED goes solid.

I'm not saying its not the switch - it does sound like it is.

Well, switch ordered this morning (Ebay £15) fingers crossed, I will post once fitted to let all know if its solved the problem, for now I just won't lock the car ;-)

Quick update, stuck in services as not starting again, AA turned up fiddled the small cable on the starter motor and has been fine since....
