If you order that condenser, I'd get two or even three if I were you. It's not unknown for them not to work from new.

if you push solenoid it spins the starter motor?
non starting with handle is ignition or fuel so could be a condensor

Did you knock an ignition feed wire off the solenoid? Its possible to either not notice or put it back on the wrong spade. One is always live, the other is only live when its crnaking (for a 8-10v coil set up for cold starting). Puttig it on the other way round would mess this up too.

it spins but doesn't engage. Fuel is getting in, the plugs have petrol on them. I just ordered the new condensors * 3 in case, contact and solenoid
Mechanic coming once parts arrive. Then we can rule out everything else, then see if it's the (new) starter and get it replaced under warranty

if starter is spinning the solenoid would seem to be working but maybe not passing enough current to spin the stater fast enough to engage or starter is the issue
quick check for whether it is fuel or ignition (aa man tip) is to spray brake cleaner down the carb intake as it ignites better than petrol. if the engine fires - either on the crank or the starter - then dies it is a fuel issue, if it doesn't fire it is ignition
I know you say fuel is getting through, just for future reference it is a lot easier than taking plugs etc off to see

Thanks! That’s a tip I’ll remember. It’s electrical. My grandads mate came over to take a look. Only pain is that the gears stick if not moved frequently so I’m hoping we can get this sorted fast

I've been assuming brake cleaner was non-flammable (like genclean) and spraying it near flames with abandon, ooops!

Hi all.
Turns out the not even a year old starter motor was full of rust and that’s why it wasn’t starting. Condenser and points replaced and she starts like a dream. Now I just need to sort out the ignition as there’s still nothing in the way of starting it from the key
