Hi all,

I have a 1.8 (1999)freelander that has started to develop a running fault that I dont seem able to find to source of the problem.

Its worse when cold, now on start up if you just press accelerator pedal a little bit it drops the revs fight off and can sometimes stall...

If i pick the revs up over 2000rpm its fine.

It has had new plugs, cap, arm, leads and filters and has been running fine.

Any ideas??????

Cheers.

Thanks Bromsgrove,

My throttle body is not plastic is a alloy one and the clips are all check no-adjustable...

Any more ideas greatly welcome.....

AIV (bypasses throttle butterfly) used as choke and fine idle speed control. May have gone out of synch, it's a stepper motor and is wound open and closed by a set number of steps at various times by the ECU (e.g. when cold like a choke).
This can get out of synch and cause problems. You will have to look in the Rave to read up on how to reset and synch the valve with the ECU. (unless a kind 1.8'er can give you a pointer?) ;)
May be worth a look if you're sure there are no air leaks anywhere else - when they go off looks just like a variable air leak?

Hi all,

Thanks for the help with this, turned out it was a faulty MAP sensor, told i had to get new ECU,

So i took one out of a car in the scrap yard, soldered it in and all has been great now for about 4 weeks..

Hope this might help someone one day!
