Whats the situation vis-a-vis non standard,(as in what the vehicle left the factory with) and the MOT test?

Im thinking along the lines of EGR blanking and non cat defender downpipes among others.....Id be interested to hear peoples experience of:
A: what happens in the real world,ie,what you can get away with, and
B: what the official regulation line is

thanks in advance

shocks;)

The offacial line is if it passes the emissions test it's a pass MOT testers aren't there to impose Construction and Use regulations. Thats a job for VOSA & the Police. As long as the modifications don't cause a danger to the public or make the vehicle unsafe. Then the tester has to test the vehicle.

I have removed the EGR valve plumbing completely and changed the catted downpipe for a defender one and it was mot'd on the 10th June and flew through, no problems at all - except for back brakes but that's a different story !!

These two mods have transformed my autobox car from a slug to a readily usable normal car - total cost £42 !!! Got to be done ;) :D

Nice one guys,thanks!:)

sounds like I need to be doing these mods on both the discos ASAP

further to the original question....if I do the mods I need to tell the insurer,OK,no probs, but do they cross ref with VOSA in the event of a claim to wiggle out? Will they say a need a single vehicle approval, either of them?

more advance thanks, you guys rock, and fast too!

shocksi;)

Re the Insurance, again it's up to you. I didn't and I hope/doubt that it'll bite me in the arse.

I can't imagine them cross-reffing with VOSA for a second - they're in it to make money !! No sva needed I'm sure - just don't go broadcasting it:rolleyes:

Cheers
Dave

PS Get it done, the auto in particular will be improved beyond all measure !!
