hello
Guys i am on a hunt 4 tires, nothing seems to grab my attention in road bias tire,i looked on tire rack 4 highway all seasons tires.my local tires store is my good friend,he is against a/t tires 4 my rangy coz he said i won't need them as i drive 95% on asphalt.he recomends the pirelli str,he said that they r good, but i read tht they tramline!will they tramline on 16 '" rim?apart tramlining r they good on wet and dry roads and wht abt wear?

he doesn't want you to have a/t tyres because he will lose the second sale 30'000 miles down the line.
a/t tyres are good for at least 50000 miles and usually a lot more. every 4x4 i've owned has had general grabber at's on them or equivilent and i have never had problems with tramlining or any other problems with running the tyres.
if your gonna fit road tyres, buy a peugot:rolleyes:
fit at's and screw what your tyre fitter says:D

all i can find is bf goodrich ko,yokohama geolander ats, bridgestone dueler.general tires r hard to find.i went to onother shop wanting the bf ko,he didn't recomend them 4 the p38 also,he asked me abt my driving location and if i drive on snow or go offroad,i said no,he recomended the bf long trail an all season tire.i have michelin synchrone at the moment and they r not A/T.i love Ah/T tires but they rn't recomending them 4 road driving.i wonder y!! They all say tht p38 is heavy and having an A/T tire in the summer is not good.

:eek:What ever you do don't get road bias tyre,s they are a nightmare in snow/mud/wet or dewy grassland and to be honest not very good on the road either. I know this as I have just had to put a:doh::doh: cheep pair of road bias tyre's on the front of mine to get it through the MOT as I couldn't get any at's at the time.
I will be going back to at's as soon as possible,at the end of the day you can not say you will never go off road and how embarrassing it would be to get stuck.:cool:
:D:DMy advice would be go for some kind of AT or ST and being on 16 inch rims your tyre choice is larger than on 18's, you don't have to go for really aggressive treads as there are some less aggressive ones on the market that would do the job fine

They all say tht p38 is heavy and having an A/T tire in the summer is not good.

What utter rubbish. A/Ts are brilliant all year round. They're intended for 4x4s so it doesn't make sense that the P38 would be too heavy for them.

You might get away with the Pirelli STRs on 16 inch rims as I think the setup is a lot more forgiving than on 18s. I tried STRs for a week on my 18s and they were positively dangerous. Swapped them for General Grabber AT2 and not looked back.

Running both Pirelli Scorpion STR's and Mitchellin A/T's

STR's on one rrc. Havent had any problems at all. Even in the snow I have been towing cars and vans up hills with very little loss of traction. No tramlining at high speed road driving either. 235/75/16

A/T's on another RRC. No problems with these either. Better in snow, mud etc than STR's though.205/80/16

Bigger rim sizes tend to run a lower profile giving a much harder ride.
