Hi
I recently got a 2 door suffix F Range Rover with the original v8 petrol in, the tappets are very noisy and I expect they need changing along with the camshaft, I am not sure about doing this my self so what as a ball park figure would I pay to have this done.
Thanks

I paid my friendly main dealer just over £1100 for that job on my 3.5 back in 1995 which was with them for two days.
But today it there are more Landy independent garages with a lower labour rates, with the labour rates depending on your area, also remember its not only the parts you mentioned but the are a few consumables to include.
So bottom line ask around garages local to you, why wouldn’t u.

What's the service record? when was the oil and filter last changed? Get an oil pressure test done.

I have given it an oil change but no difference, I have seen wyns do something that you can put into the engine that’s supposed to quieten things down but I have a feeling it’s past that stage.

It would be mostly pointless....a new camshaft, new followers and new pushrods plus the top end gaskets are not overly expensive at the end of the day...but is about 2 days work

EDIT: Thicker oil as Henry suggests is just masking a problem...and at times, thicker oil has difficulty getting into the tappets in the first place, if they are a little gummed up!

It has been standing for a few years prior to it being put back on the road, driving it though has made no difference, I will strip it my self if it’s to much to have done, I just lack a bit of confidence on this to be honest.

I have thought about giving it more of a blow out but could I do damage

A good old Italian tune up could work wonders. If its already knackered then no harm done. Just make sure she is full of oil and then stick some Redex in the tank
