Hi,
The S3 speedo in my LR is noisy. I have fitted a new cable and the needle doesnt shake or bounce but does make a noise (loud enough to hear over the engine and other noises!).
Can it be lubricated to make more silent or is it a replacement needed?

Cheers Toby

Its doing that because the cable and internal drive are worn with too much play. its basically slipping and not keeping up with the road speed hence the fluctuation. You can replace the cable, not hughly expensive, I'd try that first rather than messing with the speedo in the dash.

Is the rear drive flange nut correctly tightened?
Drive gear slips if not nipped between the components on the drive shaft.

Yes the spedo can be noisy, take it out of the dash, be carefull with the two round nuts, remove the glass, and the workings, lubricate the shaft and gears with a light oil,
dont get oil on the disk or magnet. Its simple if you take your time.
