Hi All,

I've got a 2001 TD5 90, and the fuel pump is really really noisy!

I mean, it's the loudest thing you can hear when you're behind the vehicle... High pitched whining noise.

Is this normal and can I do anything about it, or is a new one the only solution and what would be a good one to get?

Many thanks.

I would first of all change the filter like ASAP. I can be an indication of it struggling to pump fuel through a choked filter.

If it STILL makes it after you change the filter then it could be a sign it's failing, other things can also cause it to make this noise, but get the filter done first, then we can worry about other things.

not knowing the diffrence yet, it will either be under your bonnet attached to the bulkhead or underneath the drivers area, if your fuel tanks under the drivers seat, croutch down, fuel tank on your left, filter is about 20cm's way to the front of the car on the right.

Well changed the filter, it was under the drivers rear wheel arch and only took 5 minutes!

Whacked a Unipart one in there for now just to see if it makes a difference, Landrover wanted £41 for an official one and the Unipart one was £12 and hopefully not too ****.

Whining pump was not any better but only left it running for a few minutes so hopefully it will get better otherwise when i get it serviced for winter in the next few weeks I will probably get a new fuel pump put in if it doesn't STFU...

It is seriously loud, when you stand at the front of the car it's not too bad, but from the back it completely drowns out the engine and is frankly an embarrassing noise for it to be making!

Will give it a good run tomorrow and see if it still whines.

Cheers for the help.

Does that involve dropping out the tank and draining the fuel system or similar?

If so I think I'll leave it for the garage to look at!

Bit of a noob at this DIY stuff but thought I'd have a try...

Had a good run and play in the snow the other day, did about 30 miles or so, and the fuel pump seems to save quietened down a lot which is good news!

Having it serviced next week not so might get a proper filter in then instead of the crappy unipart one if it'd be worth it?
