Noise when cold.

Hi
I have a disco2 TD5 on a 52 plate with 99,000 miles on the clock.
I have only had it about a week, and have notice that first thing in the morning when started, (or whenever its cold), as I go to pull away, there is a noise like a noisy bearing, it only last a couple of seconds and doesn't happen after the car has been driven for a while.
Any ideas

My TD5 used to do a very similar thing, I thought it was the spigot bearing in the flywheel, only ever did it first thing so never did anything more about it.

First of all check the oil levels in the axles.......it wont hurt to check it in the gearbox and TB too(and why not in the engine

.......if one of these oil levels is low it will do a noise untill the mechanism throws about the oil within........it could be one reason.

Are we talking about the usual diesel rattle from cold here. If so they all do it as far as I know. Goes away after 30 seconds or so.
Too much paranoia about TD5s !

Mines does that. Only sinse i fitted new clutch and thrust bearing. Only lasts a few minutes and goes away. Got used to it now, or until bearing collapses. Then i'll be

Ah, could be the clutch, as it doesn't make the noise until I put it into gear.
And no Im not talking about an engine rattle, I know what you mean though about the diesel rattle, mine doesn't have that. I did think it might have something to do with the power steering pump, but on first tick over I turned the steering whilst stationary and no noise. But as soon as I put it in gear and let the clutch up the noise occurs.

Sometimes you have to let things develop a wee bit. Who knows? It could run for years and not get any worse. If noise is goin away, and car is runnin good, leave it. On the other hand, if its critical, it will let you know soon enough.
