no working locks :(...

my back door is ratchet strapped closed.. passenger door you have to open from inside.. filler cap just twists off and my drivers door pretty much opens if you stare at it long enough.

had a good read last night and a little before but struggling on which ones to get?
i dont mind having a seperate ignition key so for the other 4 can i get all working off the same key?
is it possible to have the filler cap off the same key as the doors?
from what i read it seems easy enough to swap?

Ignition key, door locks key, and fuel key on my Ninety are different.

I never lock the doors anyway, the locks are feeble. If you are worried about it getting nicked, a pedal lock or alarm might be better.

You should be able to get three door lock barrels that work off the same key if you want to.

I’ve got full pedal lock, steering lock and gear stick lock. Then blocked in with 2 security post and the van blocking it in ha. It’s Going nowhere at night!

I’m happy with security, gonna get a tracker asap as I’m gonna be putting some money into her

It’s just the fact of it being annoying, maybe il try fit the locks and see how I get on . Is there any particular brand I should go for?

You could just get a cheap eBay set easy enough to change. all done by pressing in a brass pin amd removing the lock.
It just takes an age to get all the trim etc off.
I bought genuine landrover when I did mine as 2002 on locks have changed. cost me about 80 quid but all on the same key now

On my 90 CSW the ignition key is different from the doors and fuel cap (which are the same). You can buy lock sets with 2/3/4/5 locks all the same

Do your research but something like this?

I said do your research, if your landy is the one in your avatar than you should be able to use a 4 lock set (3 doors and the fuel cap), might be a bit cheaper, you may also be able to find the same set cheaper, that was just the first one that sprung up when I searched. I've not changed a set before so can't comment on whether the fuel cap is that same design of lock as the doors so worth asking.

The brass pin gazman is talking about is shown on the top of the barrel lock in that picture. They can be well and truly seized up with oxide from the barrel. You need to take the door card off, so you can get the handle off then you can work on getting the barrel out. Penetrating oil will be handy when poking on to get the old barrel out.

On later Defenders, the ignition keys fit the ignition and the fuel cap. On an old Ninety, they are different. Fuel cap key is much smaller.

Agree completely about the door locks, plenty of them about, not too dear either.

Google search is your friend for parts. Google 1986 Land Rover 90, followed by the name or part number of the part you are looking for.

Sometimes it can be even better to find a local independent Land Rover parts specialist, and buy from them over the counter. After a bit, you will get to know them, and vice versa. So they will help you with their own body of knowledge, which will be considerable if they have been in the business for a long time.

That is what I do with my Ninety, I get everything from the local place, except a few bits they don't carry. For those I deal with Paddock on the phone. For more specialised stuff, I sometimes go to Extreme 4x4. They are nice guys, and helpful on the phone.

as for the research i was looking for quite a while but as this is a whole new game to me I'm really not sure what to look for and they will fit my 90 etc. i just thought id ask and see if anyone could help me, which you all have.. last thing i wanna do is order stuff and try fit it and it be the wrong part etc.. Im learning but il get there eventually, this site is a big help
