No sound thru head unit

This has been showing on my head unit and I get no sound at all thru the speakers (radio/cd/tape/tv) except sat nav instructions and my phone via a parrot aftermarket bluetooth kit. I've even purchased an auxilary cable to fit a digital tv system but even with this I get no sound for some reason.

Plenty of searching says it the rear quarter panel but I've literally checked every unit it there, all the connections and even opened up half the boxes to check for corrosion inside and its all as good as new.

The problem has been here since I purchased the car.

Anyone know what its likely to be? Head unit itself maybe? Would a range rover specific diagnostic tool help at all?

Dead DSP assuming the connectors really have no corrosion or missing pins.
 
id go with dsp a duff bm54 wont give you a orange light but most prob water contamination in n/s rear, I modified mine with a shedder & turned bm54 upside down + raised it under nav unit, tbh what a stupid idea throwing all the leccys in the boot well behind a wheelarch with plugs facing upwards so the water can run down onto multiplug

Thanks for the replies. Is there any way I can check either of those without purchasing a replacement? I assume the system wouldn't work all if either were unplugged?
I've opened the bm54 previously and despite being spotless inside cleaned it out with electrical cleaner to no avail.

Also I forgot to say but occasionally the screen starts showing what it should (what radio station ètc) but none of the buttons on the display work and there is never any sound. Unless I'm usiing the sat nav or bluetooth of course.

I believe the sat nav uses a Bm54 channel. The orange light would indicate the bm54 is good. So it's a good bet the dsp is at fault. Swapping it for a known working unit is the best option.
 
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but my car still has the same problem and I'm still checking ebay weekly to try and find a reasonably priced dsp (to no avail).

Before I bite the bullet, one thing I did forget to mention on my original thread is that the dsp menu on the head unit is functioning fine. I can choose all the settings etc and adjust the equaliser. Would this mean the dsp is functioning? Threads I've searched with dsp issues usually have no access to this menu.

Finally as mentioned in my original post, would a land rover specific diagnostic tool help me in this dilemma if I had one? Or is there anything I could check with a trusty multimeter beforehand?

Hi hippo, yes thoroughly, inside and out. Only thing with any signs of corrosion is some small rust spots on the outside of the bm54 unit. Inside and connections are spotless though. I've also cleaned all connections too just in case. Any advice you could give is appreciated. Also if anyone can tell me if their dsp lights up from inside or gets warm when not in use (i.e car on but stereo off) that would be great.
 
Ok, months on and I've finally had some advice of a specialist who fixes dsps and bm54 on ebay. He's said my problem isn't actually any of those units but is due to an "ibus" issue which is apparently quite rare and he has no experience in fixing.

Does anyone know what this could mean or anything I could do to fault find?
 
Thread resurrected again, there is a piece of software called Navcoder that the BMW crowd use with a bit of hardware you plug into the ibus. The early L322 stuff is the same as X5. Seems to be a good bit of kit according to the forums. I have similar issues and going to give it a try. Worth a punt as it's not expensive
