evening chaps

had abit of an odd one this monring, drove about 25 miles stopped car all good,

went into shop came out no more than 10 mins, came out started car but rev guage no registering put foot on accelerator nothing..turned he off, then back on, all fine and hunky dorey

now iv noticed recently revs can at times "hunt" between around 500/800 rpm at a guess

also iv had the il light come on/flicker a couple of times ( oil level is fine) so assuming thats a sensor and not releted but thought id mention it anyway..

any body had similar? and common issues? 1.8 2003

could it be crank position sensor, if so where the hell is it and is it easily nough to change, i can do the work just like to know where im looking

Try cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve [or iacv]. There are two pipes that come of the rear edge of the cam cover. One is a short S shaped pipe and goes straight into the inlet manifold. The other is longer and runs along toward the throttle body. It connect into the ivan. These can become clogged over time. Spray some carby cleaner in and let the engine idle. That may improve the idle speed situation.
