I have just changed landys from a 90 to a 90 defender tdi. whilst I am pleased with the extra power on hills(as I live in wales this is v usefull) I find it very sluggish from cold. I live at the bottom of a hill and when I try to get out first thing I have to go v slow in first gear and when I change to second I virtually lose all power to the point of stalling, it really struggles to get up the hill, then after about a half a mile suddenly has a powere surge and everything is fine. Any help would be great as I am not used to tdi's and thier ways

i would check your filters and may be drain your fuel tank cos it sounds like fuel starvation problem to me! or it could be lack of air if air filter blocking up!

have you tried warming your engine up befor this hill cos all your oil will be sat at the bottom of your sump when still cold just a thought check all filters and all hoses from intercooler regards colin
