At last I have cured my smoking problem on my 2.5td 19J, 90 CSW.
I had Diesel dripping into the air intake via the turbo when doing low speed manouvres or when idling at traffic lights etc.
When I pulled away and the turbo cut in I would get a huge engine rev with loads of black smoke ( obviously).
I was told that I needed a new turbo, or fuel pump,or engine was knackered etc.
Then I spoke to a Diesel fitter who said it was the boost pressure diaphragm, and that you can get a kit for it. I did, it cost £17.00 and I fitted it myself.
Now the Landy goes like stink. It feels like I have an extra pulling gear in the box and it now smokes like proper 19j engines should when accelerating hard.
The reason for posting this thread is to thank those of you who helped me with this problem and hopefully to help anyone else who doesn't know of this easy cure. I had read nearly every thread on the forum and never saw this one come up before.

Thanks

Morgey :) :) :)

Where did you get the repair kit from?
This is the sort of invaluable information I like to squirrel away for future use.
Both of my motors are turbo diesels so it may be something that could save me beer tokens.
I've repaired/replaced the diaphragms in various brake servos before now using cut down Morris Minor steering gaiters which only cost a few quid and are obviously a lot cheaper than buying a new servo.
It just takes a little time and some patience with a spattering of technical know how and some basic tools. Easy once somebody shows you how.
The secret is to carefully take things apart and look for something similar that could be adapted. You'd be surprised at how simple some bits are once you get to the inards. Many parts are sold on an exchange basis which suggests to me that they can be repaired. Not necessarily by me but often at far cheaper costs than buying a new part.
I suppose ultimately it depends on how quickly you need it fixed and how deep your pockets are. My pockets are sewn shut according to my mates down the pub.

Hi Shifty

I got the part from a diesel injection specialist on the outskirts of Bristol.
He wanted to know the serial number of my lucas fuel pump and seemed to know exactly what part it was from memory.
You could not make or repair this part though.
It was about 40mm in diameter and was a bellows type diaphragm with metal parts pressed on it from either side.
It fitted to the unit on the side of the fuel pump.
A local " Landy expert " told me I could not fix it myself but the injector man said I could.
It was not that hard to do ( two springs either side made it fiddly) and what a difference it made to the performace of the Landy.
