I have bought immaculate defender TD5 , but no key for fuel cap. Tried to pick lock, tried to use flat head screw driver. Several YouTube videos showing how to drill through outer cap and threading a screw to lock 2 components together - but not on a defender. Looks as if it should work. Anyone tried?

First post! Trying to remove fuel filler cap without a key, I have a suspicious mind,
What are you saying our first poster who may travel regular in a white van with family in towed caravan unfamiliar obtaining fuel from regular outlets due financial reasons needing access a neighbours in the country or county of this fine land of diversity whom we welcome people selling pegs and white heather discarded rubbish for the council to pick up later and bill council payers lets not forget we have been there in the forecourt struggling or fumbling with the amass of keys dangling from the weighed down ignition hole worn out from years of abuse only to find the same bleeding key actually opens the fuel cap.o_O:rolleyes:.

They usually go for wagons parked in laybys overnight. Our friendly scania fitter went out to one that'd had about 750 litres drained the other night

I fear you are right. Very odd to have fuel in but no key. I actually found my self with no filler key 600 miles from home but I won't share that (honest) story as it may well turn up on here next week.

Bit surprised they're not alarmed I know when their hauling trailer loads they have a internal alarm fitted inside the trailers. I remember working for Marks and Spencer transport company in Rochdale early nineties that alarm if your not quick enough nearly burst your eardrum. Possibly explains why the doctor was concerned when his torch light went straight through while checking my lug holes:confused::oops:

Ok, problem solved. Seller has lost both keys, his wife always filled up apparently. I have put a screw through the cap. Some of the comments frankly racist. I’m disappointed. I thought Landrover community was supposed to be classless, I had not expected it to be racist.

Must admit I'm having problems with the "Racist" tag, would you like to take this opportunity to explain please?

Must be me folks being white English. Looks like I will have to prostate myself, before the moderator to apologize for my sins. I guess I will be banned for a few days. Ah well. I fully apologize to Alistair McCleary.

ive just got a land rover and key shortage problem is quite a common story

II would no more help stranger get a filler cap off with a key as I would how to unlock a car without a key or what my pin number is. If someone came to my door with that question I would photograph them just in case. Perhaps I'm unlucky but when I have taken my camera out to take api9cute of someone claiming to have run out of petrol and holding a can they ran off, likewise the "roofer", "drive contractor".
