Went over a sleeping policeman at council tip a bit hard in third gear (leaf spring testing) and bang all forward drive lost (was in the one way system too).
It's a 1980 88 with 200di done by Glencoyne original box with new clutch about 2 years ago.

Gear-lever moved into all gears with 'not quite selected' type noise BUT reverse worked enough for me to get to the nearest garage by reversing out of the yard and across a couple of roundabouts maybe half a mile. OilyBloke didn't want to know really so got a tow home thinking I could reverse up the drive to the garage for a proper look.

It popped out of reverse at the critical point requiring SWMO to help push onto the property and now we have the whirring noise in all gears.

I popped off the overdrive cover and nothing moves in there beyond a little twitch when clutch is engaged.

Could it be clutch splines gone?
The tow home was noisy in neutral.
It's snowing here!

have the little dog teeth on overdrive gear secured on out put shaft and teeth in overdrive gone, an issue in g/box itself should show in the oil if you drain it ,is it noisy in neutral but goes quiet when clutch is pressed

noise comes from rear o/d end
high pitched noise in top gear and low pitched noise in reverse
so looks like its the little teeth in there not clutch.. thanks:)

if the teeth have stripped on your clutch sleeve then the teeth in the mainshaft will also be screwed

i could be interested in the remains as i have one sat here that needs parts due to emptying itself of oil and burning out some of the innards (bearings and gear teeth  ) and now won't hold high ratio

(just a thought if you don't intend rebuilding yours yourself)
