no drive

ive now got my series 3 engine running but when i come to drive her today it wouldnt move an inch. i have removed the front prop shaft at the min as it has broke (would this make a difference). im selecting all gears but nothing seems to move ive also tried low and high box. any help would be great thankyou

HAHA difflock lol, Suspect a rear shaft me thinks if the clutch is ok

Series don't ave a center diff! if you can get somone to look underneath from behind to see if the propshaft is rotating when you let the clutch up. If its spinning then suspect fault lies within the diff, shaft drive member if the propshaft does nit move then suspect clutch, gearbox, transferbox.

stick it in 4wd see if it moves then

Do the propshaft check, only select a gear that would move the vehicle away from the observer so you dont run over them.
If prop shaft no go round then gearbox issue, check the high low lever you might have a broken linkage after messing with the front shaft, if the rear shaft go round, then looks like a half shaft is now a quarter shaft.

Drive member flanges on the ends of the axles can also wear and let the half shaft spin.

Has it got an overdrive? If it has is it in low or high gear? if it is then is the gearbox turning when the clutch is released ? (will be audible from inside the cab) The input to the overdrive is via the clutch cog which is attached to the gearbox output shaft which can strip it teeth or the nut holding it can work loose which is also the same if there is just an output cog fitted direct to the transfer box the nut has a shim and locking tab and is tightened with a special spanner.Remove the plate above the cog to inspect

If one half shaft is broken the propshaft will be turning! The shafts were designed as the weak points of the transmission to stop off road farmers from wrecking their gearboxes and were later upgraded with more splines and less prone to leak drive members. To inspect a shaft leave the wheels on and undo the six bolts holding the drive member to the wheel hub jack the wheel up to stop the diff oil running out then pull out the shaft complete. The gasket will tear so be prepared to fit a new one. If a shaft is broke it may be obvious at the wheel end when the drive member is removed or it could be broke in the diff When did it last move ? If it had been towed for a signifcant distance the transmission can suffer from wind up which may snap the weakest part

No, but fairly close. 602 is "last three" of my RAF number. I had problems persuading AOL to give me a meaningful username. I also answere to John. But if I sign 602, I can recognise my own mails, which helps if you were born before WW2.

Do all the cheeks as recommended, but I would suspect something bust in the back axle, diff or halfshaft, (rear prop will turn, but vehicle won't move) It has then been locked in 4WD to keep it moving, and so put extra strain on the front prop and broken it.

My grandad was a pilot and in 686 squadron, 1832868.
