Hi Everyone and happy New Year.

I have the following problem:
2,5 td manual. Have changed clutch, complete set, OEM.
Drove off, and after 10 km lost all drive. Engine runs fine. No gears at all, no reverse. No difference if high or low in transfer box.
Now before pulling the box again, in case the clutch has exploded or the centre of the clutch actuator has fallen out, I recall someone said check the input shaft first. Now I don't remember how that worked.

Thank you for any input.

Input shaft will be found coming from the Engine to the clutch to the Gearbox...!!!!

Do you have RAVE as this has the rebuild info for the R380 Manual Box....??

That is what I would call the mainshaft. As it was described, it was behind some round cover and could, after removal of this cover, just be twisted out. Can't be the mainshaft. It was also stated that it has happened before that this shaft stripped its teeth, which I would like to have a glance at it before taking out the whole gearbox.
Also, this is a Range MK I or Classic, I believe, the R380 is the box for the P38. I have a works paper manual for it.

p38 isnt the same as a classic with an lt230
input shaft is the input to gear box from clutch ,mainshaft pokes out of the rear and enters t/box which on a p38 is epicylic input and drive is never lost betwen the 2 ,its either your clutch ,buggered gear box or t.box in neutral

SO, (redhand) assuming we are talking transfer box input shaft, would that give the syptoms as described? The pic looks convincing enough? And if so, where is it, is it terminal or can I try get a new one, fresh oil and BOB?
(jamesmartin) yes, talking cross purposes here, saw that from the legend (post #5).

ah so its a classic ,if its an early one with an lt230 you could remove pto cover and look at internal splines on the input gear ,but it would have had a bad clunk when taking up drive for a long time before

Ok, went into shed had a look (as it is on blocks that is easy enough). The Range is not what I would call early, about 94 or so. The box doesn't have this removable cover, if it is where I think it should be, (next to the handbrake drum) this is cast on and only on the very tip it has some tinny cover on it that looks as if it is shredded as soon as you touch it. Size of about a jam jar lid. Can't recall any "bad" clunks after changing the clutch, had a bad clunk on my disco when the hardy went. ;-) BTW the aftermarket replacement only lasted a year and that without towing!

thats not the lt230 but a borgwarner and input gear is an epicylic gear set similar to p38 ,it has hi lo and neutral, out put shaft has splines that strip(it pulls out with speedo housing) but youd need a buggered front diff for it to stop you moving ,the tin cap how do you mean shredded

that is classic borgwarner ,alls worth jacking up one front wheel and seeing if wheel will turn with a 2fr bar on wheel nut it will tell you whether viscous coupling is seized (in front output housing)it will wind tranmission up and break a diff if left usually front

Ok, the Range is on blocks right now. I can run the engine in any gear without drive. Move transfer lever into any position. No drive whatsoever. I get under it, turn front prop, resistance after about 10°, same with back prop.

lt230 has a diff lock borgwarner has a viscous coupling when not seized it will allower center differential for going round bends etc ,but if a wheel spins will lock , when seized winds transmission up ,and its not unkown for someone to have lost drive on front axle but never noticed till rear went
