no connection

evening all my freelander 1 1.8 (53 reg) engine light came on. still run right.
so though i would plug in my obd reader (work on my friends freelander just 1 year newer)
and all that came up is turn ign on (and yes it was) unplugged and gentle squeezed the plug a bit tighter
but no luck.
i did read online that a fuse runs from ecu to the plug but i cant find if, and no fuses are blown. have had them all out inside and out.
any ideas please

It quite common for the OBD2 port to suffer contact spreading, which stops it from communicating.
