No Brake Lights on 90 TD5

My 2002 Defender 90 TD5 has developed a fault on the brake lights. Bulbs are okay and it may be coincidence but it seemed to happen after I'd plugged a friends trailer light board to my tow bar. Any ideas what else I should check.

fuse,and switch, 1 wire to switch should be live

Check the brake light switch. Mine had corroded connections and caused a intermittent fault. It's top of the bonnet at the back of the brake servo.
Bridge the connections to it and your brake lights should come on. If not it is something else
