I had the head gasket done in my 1.8gs a couple of months ago, should have checked myself however when they refilled the system they never put anti freeze in!

So Wife went out to start it on Wed and would not go, she did not know what it was so never knew to just stop trying to turn it over, but hey, done now, cant go back.

I checked it and it was frozen, the pipes were not bulging and I could squeeze then and feel the icy water inside.

Put a small heater in to thaw it out and hope for the best, tried starting it this morning now its all thawed and it wont!

Seems to turn over and it fires and sounds as if its just about to kick into life then stops firing and just turns over. Cant see any obvious signs of damage or leaks but the ground is wet anyway so there may be. All around the pipes are dry.

Any ideas where to go next? First time I have any issues with the car and I am not familiar where everything is or need to check.

Cheers

Lee

The petrol freelanders need OAT based coolant to act as a cooling aid and lubricant. If the garage that did the hgf didnt refill it correctly, then they are negligent. Check the invoice to see if you have been invoiced for it.

Mind yu - if you havent checked it in two months, you are pretty dumb, yoself:rolleyes:.

Has anyone got anything useful to suggest that I dont already know ^^

Go to the garage just as the owners leaving. and in a not very polite manner tell him if he doesn't give you a large amount of money, You & the 3 very large friends with you, are going to rearrange his legs, so his feet point backwards.

Ffs - yu asked " any ideas where to go next?"

yes
1) the invoice from the garage and check it.
2) the garage to tell them that they are responsible and that you expect them to fix ir FOC..
3) an independant to confirm problems are the garages fault.
4) trading standards if you get no joy

I was perhaps incorrectly expecting suggestions as to what else I could try, or maybe what could be wrong that I could check to confirm what is wrong.

Water when it freezes expands and so it could have done alsorts of damage. If you try fixing it yourself. There is no way to prove that the garage was negligent. So check invoive and then back to garage is steps 1 and 2.

I was not going to fix it unless it was something simple, I just wanted to see if there was a way to identify why it was not starting, I appreciate it could have done several possible areas of damage.

However based on the fact it appeared to be turning over and trying to start I thought it may be more simple than just being dead or not making any effort to start.

Well if you can't figure it out whilst sat inside it. How the **** are we supposed to figure it out hundreds of miles away. :(

Ok, fair enough, was just looking for some help to try and identify the issue as a starting point so I had an idea of what may casuing it.

Never mind, your all clearly far more intelligent than I and I should find a differnent site to have a more helpful conversation aimed at my level of understanding. ;)

What a bunch of pricks you are, all the man wanted was a proper replie to a question, the fact that his car froze up mite not be the reson for it not to start, give the man some proper addvise or shut the **** up.

get the garage/person/**** who decided to not put antifreeze to look at it, but my guess is a core plug should have popped to save engine.

Sensibly I would take plugs out and see if there is water in cylinders or if wifey has flooded it.
