Two things interest me:

1. Newer tires should be put forward or back?
2. How reliable Vcu torque test and they gave the correct values in the text?

"Vcu torque test results
What I did
Chock front wheels
Hand brake off
In first gear
Jacked off side rear wheel up
Take centre cap of wheel
Set my torque wrench to 300Nm with 32mm socket on the end
Placed on hub nut and turned wheel (wheel and vcu turned ok)
Tried 200Nm wheel and vcu turned ok
The lowest setting on mine which I could turn the wheel ( vcu )was 75 lbf/ft 101nm
My fl as done 80k miles I was quite surprised that not much torque is needed to turn the Wheel (vcu)
You must remember when doing this test that the wheel (vcu) will turn slowly when using 101nm
Even at greater torques you can’t expect the wheel to turn fast
Just set you torque wrench to 101nm 75lbf/ft and apply constant pressure and the wheel will slowly turn round if you try to speed it up your torque wrench will click
I am quite satisfies my vcu is ok and in good condition
hope this helps somebody ".

two things irritate me:

1)questions that have already been answered on here before many times
2)people to lazy to search

newer tyres to the back, search for vcu. I wouldn't get too hung up on the exact readings of torque, as it's hard to quantify unless the unit is on a bench and the test method is the same. just check if its working by tippex test, jacking one corner up and seeing if you can turn a wheel using some considerable force.

please please search for this as there are many posts on the same subject, you can then make your own judgement. I should imagine that very few (i certainly didn't) of us have worried about the exact torque readings on the vcu.

good luck

I have always beleived and followed the new tyres to the back theory but id like to pose a question.

Scenario:

Buy 4 brand new tyres for the FL.

After 6,000 the handbook reccomends rotating them front to back.

The front tyres, having to do most of the work will be worn more than the rears so putting them on the back will mean that the better tyres are now on the front.

Sort of a contradiction?

 The handbook specifically says that you should NOT interchange tyres from front to rear.
There's no contradiction, LR say swop rear tyres only, side to side when carrying out a service.

Ah, thanks for that, sure I had read it somewhere, must be taking a senior moment!
