Hi All,

Found this site after looking to buy a LR Defender County 90.
I used to drive modded 110s (Td5s) as part of a GeoTec engineer job and loved them.
My wife also grew up with them and took her test in an almost new 90 pickup many years ago (and passed)!

We are now looking to get one as a second vehicle - to tow our little speedboat and for a bit of proper off roading as well as a general handy surf mobile (we both surf a lot).

Looking at both 2nd hand (up to three years old) but also quite tempted by the new one - is it a huge leap over the older one?

Any comments much appreciated!

New defender has a much improved interior, 6spd gearbox, a few other lectricy toys like anti stall control. I havnt looked at prices but I personally would be very happy with a TD5.

See if u can get hold of backdated copies of LRO, LR monthly etc, they all did good write ups of the 07 defender a few months back when it first came out.

Chris - think I'll test a new one. Already quite familiar with the TD5.
Treworgey - Whereabouts in this fine county are you?

AAAArrrrggghhhhhhhhhh !

He's going to drive it onto the beaches and get it all sogged with salty water!

It will rot and rust before his eyes.

I too have a 110 for doing geoteching in!However as its a site car is battered and old/full of character and well proven so new ones are well out of my league!

Goon - we used to get them new and kill them in about two years towing drilling rigs/bowsers,etc! Which company? I was Structural Soils about six years ago (I think) - often fun but the pay was tragic.

Anyway, went to the local dealer - they have a black demonstrator - 90 Defender XS with plenty of useful extras.
Extremely nice and been offered an extended test drive with a possible view to buying it ex demo.
The most useful thing is the proper back seats, the ABS, the ETC and the smoother engine

This is the one in fact:

Im currently with a company called merebrook.
Our contractor supplies us with vehicles so they aint new.I frist had a series 3 88 which had a seriously gutless taxi engine but I broke it.
Ive now got a H reg 110 which had a decent sound system but we shock the speakers out of the pannels when we had a large muckshift on.Couldnt hang around though getting chased by Damn quick A40's!
We also have L200's, a couple of Navaras(which are quite new and looked after-ie not taken on site) and the srtangest thing-a Lotus prepare Izuzu Bighorn!Might even start a new thread about that!
