Hello all i am just wonder if anyone could help us please,i work at a insurance bodyshop,we have a customers defender in 2009 plate vehicle where they have stolen his bonnet and grille,we have replaced them both including new hinges etc (all genuine parts) but the bonnet seems to have loads of movement in the hinge and we are unsure where to go with this as apart from the hinge and the bushes there is nothing else to fit,we were going to order the other half of the hinge until we were told they come with the bulkhead panel. What we cant understand is why the movement as the hinge on the bulkhead side are that strong that we cant seeing them to have bent,no damage on the vehicle to suggest the bonnet has been any further back to remove than needed,as i say we are lost basically as we have had the vehicle at side of 2 others and the movement in those compaired is nothing like

Thanks for reading

are you sure you have the correct bushes? from what you are saying it sounds like the play is caused be the bush being too small is that right? they may have sent you bushes for a older defender. this is just a suggestion as i dont know if there is a difference in size between the years but it is possible. Pictures would help

Is this with the bonnet up or down?

Just to be sure, you have fitted a TDCI bonnet with the bulge in it and not TD5 bonnet without?

If the movement is when the bonnet is down have you checked and adjusted the rubber stoppers it rests on, on each side at the front and have you also checked that the bonnet pin is lining up ok? It may also be worth checking that there isn't more than one type of strker pin while you are at it.

They nicked the bonnet?

Some people
Ask your local LR dealer how much a new bonnet would cost. Add the cost of spraying and fitting plus waiting time and then you will know why nicking a bonnet is worth while.

Not to mention the scrap value of aluminium. Somebody had a go at lifting my aluminium Hannibal roof rack but were foiled because I'd fitted security screws instead of the standard allen bolts. I've now welded the bolts over as I dont trust them not to come back with a set of security sockets from Halfords for second go.

I have drilled the slots out of the cross-heads that hold my raised heater intake on. It would take an opportunistic thief seconds to whip it of if I didn't. If I need it off I just use a set of left handed drills and put new fasteners on.
Not much of a security method but evry likkle helps as TESCO says!
Land Rovers are great for bolting stuff to but this also makes them easy to take stuff from!
