Hi there I'm new to the site.

I've got a 2001 Freelander TD4, we had it a couple of weeks now and all is good, well that is till now lol.

Basically we started hearing a wind noise from the engine bay, then it starting throwing out black smoke, now I've taken off the intercooler pipe (WAP000080) and that was split, so I've just fitted a brand new pipe, I then went to start the car and it didn't want to start, then tried again and it started but was very lumpy and rough.

Any ideas on what it could be or what to do next?? :)

Panic over :) just fired it up again it was running fine, no more black smoke unless I put it into sport mode and floor it lol

Good to hear you are fixed. BTW the MAF is behind the oil filler under the engine cover.

It would be worthwhile taking off and cleaning the egr valve (or removing it) whilst you are doing the intercooler pipe, (it's the metal pipe that your new hose connects to) just has 4 bolts holding it on, sure that there is thread on here or look on tuning diesels website for pictures.

I also have owned my TD4 for a couple of weeks now and have all ready had a bit of trouble (brake switch), i also made the mistake of posting the question "what else goes wrong with freelanders" dont do it it'll upset you, it would have been easier asking "whats good about them" as the list would have been shorter
