I don't think you need anything for the trip, other than the jate rings. I would wait until after the trip. I bought some straps but have since found out a good long rope would have been better. That's the point of this, so we can learn :D:D

What Sue says. For this trip I doubt you'd need the Jate rings, but they _are_ a good solution to recovery points if there aren't any already on.

Just bought this strop from eBay. I've heard that when using rope, tree's can become damaged. So strops should be used.

These seem pretty cheap for what they are...

Not worth buying the cheap stuff, costs you more in the long run.

are these the same ones you have tim...

LOL, thats what I thought :D:D Shall we message the ebay sellers and tell him we can verify that they aren't 9 tonnes :D:D "I am told that these will pull up to 9 tonnes, but I have no way of verifying this" 182 folk already have them, hope they aren't on this trip

Gutted. I spent ages looking for them. Just my luck...

Yes you have been lucky. Those are the ones Tim had when we went out and he got stuck. Had to join his to mine and his snapped. Two different ones, absolutely useless things. If you dont believe me read this :D:D

Any ideas now

It's a portable tree

:cool: Brilliant, OK I'm inviting you, even if you is a Southerner.

Paul D has asked me to find somewhere with grass and a tree for this trip. If you come I only need to find some grass :D:D:D

SueW do you have a day in mind for the route/find a field with a tree mission this weekend? Saturday would be better for me as I have 2 do's to go to Saturday night and may be in no fit state to find anything on sunday:D

Pile o' ****e ...

Yes they're tested to 9 tons, but that's the weight of a towed but rolling vehicle ... I'd hazard a guess that they'd snap at something over a ton in a recovery situation, which is nothing in Landrover 'stuck in the mud' terms.

As it says, they're tow straps, not recovery strops! Note the spelling ..

On a positive note, you've not lost a lot though .. ;)
