Hi all, if anyones interested, we've got for sale a 1962 series 2a which used to be the snow plow for leeds-bradford airport (we dont have the plow for it tho!), with both tops to be either a van or truck cab. Its fitted with a 3.5 twin carb v8 that as far as i'm aware has only done 24k!
heres the minus points, it was dismantled probably about 8 years ago for a restoration project, but never really got off the ground, and as a result of this, quite a lot may have gone missing.
right onto the plusses: it had a new half chassis when it was stripped, and is still in near mint condition, had the bulkhead fully restored (costing a small fortune!) and was resprayed in a current land rover colour: bonatti grey. all the brake lines have been refitted and are all brand new, however with it been stood for so long (in a garage) i dont know what the condition of the drum brakes are. it also has free-wheeling hubs on the front.
I did start to have a go at getting started on restoring her, but quickly ran out of time and money
We did however get that great big thirsty lump to splutter into life with the aid of a squirty bottle and a couple of booster packs!
All the body panels are there, it has series 3 wings (one of which ive stripped, filled, flatted, primed, flatted again, and so on and so forth!) a good solid (but slightly wobbly) rear tub, both series 2 and 3 front plates, series 2 bonnet (in good nick) van sides and roof, also a truck cab with all the glazing (which took me bloody ages to strip the black emulsion of them!!) and the little mounting strip for under the cab which are like bloody hen's teeth!
the doors are average, however they do have new door tops, which i believe are the military style with the slanted glazing (they have got the crappy series 3 locks tho!)
the only thing thats missing from the bodywork is the lower tailgate (if you make it into a pickup) but the back door's there if you keep it as a van.
This would be a very good solid base for a project for someone who can give her the time and money she deserves, unfortunately ive got a rangie who needs me more at the moment and a motgage!
Dont want to sell her as parts, coz it seems a shame to destroy a nice piece of history, even if i could make a fortune from it (plus my old man is sick of the sight of it and wants his garage back!!!)
We're based in Leeds, and open to offers but you would need a big trailer with a winch to drag her on!
Let me know if anyone's interested!
Cheers!
