Hi guys and gals. My name's Jon I am am an alco......... hang on...... wrong forum. Must be the booze talking. Anyway. I am Jon, 31 years old and from Wakefield in West Yorkshire.
Just in the process (or so I hope anyway) of buying my first Landy; a 1998 Discovery 3.9 V8 ES....... reckon I must be mad. Never had anything like this before so totally new to V8's and to 4x4. Currently running a 12 plate Insignia 1.9 TDI SRI VX-Line for a company car, and building a Mac#1 Motorsport ZX10R Worx Turbo (first ever attempt at building a kit car), after years of owning motorbikes. Decided to have a change and slip / grease myself out of the leathers so bought a kit car to build. It's going to be a real monster when its done.
Always hankered after a 4x4 though and with the purchase of our first dog last year, and with the opening of a 4x4 centre in Rothwell only 1/2 mile from my house, I started the lookout a few weeks ago for something cheap and with that beat-up workshorse sort of look. Well I got the cheap bit of what I was after, but it definitely doesn't fit the "beat-up" look that I was expecting for my money. Hopefully going to collect it next weekend.
The idea behind the Disco purchase is to;
(1) Use it for taking the dog out walking and not to worry about if it gets in the car dirty as this is my car to be responsible for and not a lease car from work.
(2) I will need to at some point tow a trailer with my kit car on it to get it to the VOSA station for testing and a towbar on my company car was going to cost £300 or so (lease company insist on it being done at main dealers), so I thought the Landy could cover this as it already has a towbar on it.
(3) Not sure but there must be a 3rd reason.
(4) Perhaps make it more off-roady and go to the new 4x4 place that is only 1/2 mile away.
(5) Park it right in front of the garage for added security for the garage contents
(6) It's got 7 seats so thats got to come in handy at some point
Am sure there are more that I can think of before I tell the Mrs that I have to just go nip out to collect something and come back with a V8 monster
