Newbie headlight help please

Hi all
I bought a 1995 300tdi last night but I have. Problem with only the o/s headlight is working!
The n/s is not on either low beam or high beam? I have checked the fuses and replaced te bulb but still nothing?
Any ideas would be very helpfull, and where is the earth located for the headlights?

Pull the plug off the bulb and check to see if it has power going to it ?

earth - follow the little black wire - usually on inside of wing.

Thanks chaps I will check those in a bit!
I have also noticed if I have either just side lights on or full beam there is a clicking coming from the passenger foot well?
