Offroading is possible. A couple of Hippo's came out on the S*L*U*T*S beginners outing last year and the performed very well. I seem to remember one had a technical but still made it round.
Keep an eye out for a member called Hippo, he uses his properly, seen some pics of his Freelander wading. Very impressive.

It's good for a starting landy, no doubt if you get the off roading bug you'll probably upgrade to something a bit more capable, you could always keep the gaylander just for road useage.

Stuart, you've bought the BEST Landrover, stylish, quicker than the tractor models, better fuel economy & better handling. Also as Medusa says, Hippo has shown up quite a few Pretenders & Rangies with his offroading talents in his Freelander so enjoy your superb machine.

....**** me thats clean.They do work off road but as ya live in da smoke it will probably suffer short journey syndrome and last forever....
You could off road it but if ya come to kernow then prehaps a new paint job.....
All in they are a pile o ****e ya cant fix,I like me old range because despite being way more precious than ya gaylander will ever be it rocks and if it breaks i can fix it without much hassle.Im even on carbs to aid the non eletrical things.
Get used to lookin like a woman and prehaps when it breaks ya could get a pink slitty with white leather...

Hi Stuart Welcome Do not be put off by the comments! Its just that the Freelander hasn't got a chassis ..oh, and no low box ..... so owners of ratty sheds get a bit sniffy about them. Fit some decent rubber, get a suspension lift an I reckon they would see off a lot of the more modern stuff....what say all of you? Actually...does anyone know anyone who trials one? It would be interesting to see pics!

Been having a look at some info and will join a mate of mine when he goes in his motor to learn a few things... dont want to be going solo with no knowlege just yet!
I've heard of a few stories where freelanders have out done some of the other models now so i guess its how you drive it that counts.

Ha ha I'm brand new here too and I too have just got hold of a gaylander erm...flandy! Anyway, having owned and off roaded every model from the green oval range, all in all, the flandy actually ain't that bad! I kind of inherited mine but I plan to make it a better road going motor than a serious offroader.
It's ok for dry'ish fields and the odd scramble down simple lanes but it wasn't designed to plug mud. It was designed to look good on the road and I think it is rather fetching!
Once I've discovered if I can get the better seats from a facelift model to fit mine and maybe the sports premium suspension, I'll like it even more!
These defender and series boys are all chat and bravado until they have to do the long trip home.....lol
