morning all..........only just anyways

been wanting a landrover for years and thankfully i'm in a position now to get one to do what landrovers are ment to do i.e the school run lol, nah seriously i'm looking at buying a Disco as a toy to have some fun offroad and go greenlaning.

I've been reading up on here about the difference between 200/300 and V8s in terms of reliability etc and unless i can find an LPG V8 i'm thinking of a 200 or 300.

Apart from the usually wheel arch, sill and rear floor rot, is there anything i should look out for rot wise?

also whats the deal with 2inch lift kits and 2inch body lifts? if i purchase 2inch lift shocks and springs, do i need anything else (except for tools), and is there any need to do this to a standard disco or are they pretty capable as they are (with offroad tyres)?

now the boring bit, about me, names Jason, live in the Midlands, work in I.T so you can see why i want to get outdoors as much as poss, love everything to do with cars, from spending weekends at Santa Pod going to "boy racer" style shows, to watching motorsport around the UK. I aint your average I.T geek lol, but feel free to rub it in

cheers for any advice and help and **** taking you throw my way :D

finally got round to getting my first Disco today, pick it up in about a week because it had a private plate on so waiting for the dvla to do their bit and stick a normal plate back on it, bought a 94 M reg Disco1 3.9 V8 ES Auto, 98k, pretty good condition overall, no sill or wheel arch rot, just the starting signs of rot in the boot but i was expecting that, 10months mot and 6 months tax, not bad for £1600

the only problem i found is the one rear door doesn't unlock properly, you can hear the electrics trying to unlock it but it doesn't push the button up high enough, i'm thinking just a solenoid, but tbh its not that big a deal for a 16yr old motor.

any tips on making the v8 more throaty and sounding more evil? without spending too much on a full stainless exhaust system.

i'll get some photos up when i've picked it up.

£1600 you paid top dollar for that one..a v8 is not the preferred option when buying a disco so i reckon ya should have got it a lot cheaper

i've been looking for a while and everything in this condition i've seen is close on the 2k mark so i don't think 1600 is that bad tbh, body wise and chassis wise this one is top notch, just the odd little scratch plus that little problem with the door lock. the interior is mint too, last owner had it for 7 years, elderly gentlemen who has kept practically every receipt so i also know more on the history of it, plus its all main dealer service history aswell, shame i'll be ruining the service book by doing everything myself from now on :)
