Thanks OP!

Been looking through threads etc some say just need to change the filter which is cheaper (BMW part no 111 277 99 367) rather than the housing unit also. What do you reckon??? All Or part?? Getting it done today all bin well...if my man can...!!! Need urgent reply if poss???? Does it require any special tools to get to it and change?? if so can you you tell me what....read something about Torc (that spelt right)?? or allen key....is a certain size required??

On a POSITIVE note...Re loss of power...its def much better since having the new boost control fitted....I even managed an overtake without losing power ON A HILL!!! and no it was not a bicycle!!!

Back to not so positive....I didnt mention my OTHER problem....intermittent again.....engine management warning light coming on....only when I press brake pedal!!! Think its engine management ....orange/yellow box thing with wat looks like an oil can in it?????? Any suggestions why?? Will have a ponder through threads also....

thanks agin for info on changing crankcase....if you can just add if need special tools....will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GRATEFUL!!!!! so glad I found this site.....so many men with soooo much knowledge!!! I have told my man to change his car and get a freelander (Golf driver currently with loss of power probs also!!!! the forums are rubbish in comparison...LANDYZONE....SIMPLY THE BEST:amen:!!!!!

will update laters...........

Mad hat man.....cant find the faqs or link....I is blonde....and by far no landy expert!! can I have step by step please....or another link in forum....I hve read about the rave in threads....confused me then....only know about "all night raves"
Do you know wat the yellow/orange light is ....sent thread earier...(or think I did) keeps intermitently coming on when press brake pedal???? I gave wrong description earlier, had another look on way home this morn....it to the right of the ignition display.....looks like kinda of a funny odd box shape with an "explanation mark" in the middle !!!!! Wat is it????
Hope getting BMW filter part this morn (think just guna get the internal oil seperator, not the housing), ya reckon that be ok?....Will it be impossible to fit without RAVE, OP reply sounds quite simple, and few others....but is that cos you all trained and years of hands on experience????

sorted with the rave...p38 from www.cannell.co.uk.....its fekin massive download!!! should take about 2hours!!!!
yes apparently bmw crankcase breather can be bought either as housing and filter kit OR just internal filter.....just thinkin logically that if the filter fits in freelander original housing then just replace the filter....the whole kit being about £50 the filter £20....thats £30 left for drowning my sorrows tonight then!!!:D

although it's made out of filter material, it's actually more of an oil separator. the bmw part doesn't have the filter element, and is all made out of plastic.

the beauty of the bmw part is it can be cleaned and refitted, being plastic, but the land rover mesh "filter" has to be replaced. long term, the bmw part is cheaper. when you take the cover off the valve, look inside, there is a spring loaded flap, make sure this is clean and totally free to move against the spring. if it's gunked, it could cause problems.

you will only need an allen key to change this item. If you do find a torx screw to undo, and don't have the torx keys, you could wedge an appropriately sized screwdriver across the longest point of the head and unscrew it that way. (so I'm told, never done it meself, ho hum...)

as for the warning light every time you press the brake pedal, maybe worth replacing the brake light switch, there's lots of threads on here about it.

good luck

THIS IS ONE HAPPY NEWBIE!!!!! CAN YOU GUESS???
MY F.L IS FIXED!!!!!!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH YOUR EXCELLENT SUGGESTIONS!!!
ONLY A FEW DAYS AGO I WAS A BLONDE IN DEEP DISTRESS WITH MY VERY POORLY F.L TD4 '02 PLATE. THE WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE OF YOU GUYS IS PRICELESS!! WISH I COULD BUY YOU ALL A DRINK!!:5bhurray:
SO TO RE-CAP:

1.LOSS OF POWER, PARTICULARLY UPHILL, WOULD REACH 3000 REVS AND DIE...SLOW RIGHT DOWN TO BELOW 40MPH SOMETIMES. WOULD ALSO LACK POWER ON FLAT AT HIGH SPEED LUCKY TO GET PASSED 70MPH. DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED BOOST CONTROL AND FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT.
SOLVING PROBLEM I WENT FOR THE CHEAPER OPTION TO BE REPLACED THE BOOST CONTROL. THIS ACTUALLY DID PROVIDE SOME IMPROVEMENT BUT STILL NOT MAINTAINING POWER, MORE SO NOW ON FLAT GROUND!!
I WAS RELUCTANT TO HAVE THE 2ND FAULT CORRECTED AS PART COST QUOTE WAS £150 AND I WAS TOLD WAS A T**T OF A JOB, DUE TO LOCATION (THIS WAS ONLY THE ADVICE I WAS GIVEN SO DONT QUOTE ME)! ANYWAY....I DISCONNECTED THE MAF....:D ALLELUYAH!!!! F.L KICKED ASS!!! GET IN!!!! FLEW UP HILLS..... COULD CHANGE DOWN GEAR....AND STILL GET SPEED INCREASE!!! INFACT WE HAD SO MUCH FUN I WENT UP AND DOWN 3 TIMES!!! EVERYTIME A WINNER!!!!:banana::banana:

(I have not got a new one fitted yet....but for sure this is the other problem) I want one of those super duper mafs....for even more speed I think!!! guna check out the threads soon on the only place that can help........
:praise:

WHAT ISNT KNOWN HERE........ ISNT WORTH KNOWING!!!!

PROBLEM 2. OIL, WHICH CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS, "PI**ING UP" THROUGH THE DIPSTICK!!!! ONCE AGAIN AFTER SOME GREAT HELP FROM (TO NAME AFEW).....
RATTY...BLESS YOU MY THREAD SAVIOUR....OPTIMUS PRIME...CHEERS OP FOR YOUR OPTIMUM REPLIES.....MAD HAT MAN.....NOT A F.L MAN BUT HAPPY TO HELP......CHEERS......:5bcheers2:

PROBLEM SOLVED TODAY....CHANGED THE CRANKCASE FILTER.....WENT WITH THE BMW "INNER" PART, CALLED "OIL SEPERATOR" (BMW PART NO.11127799367) £22.79 INC VAT FROM STRATSTONES. THE PART FITS PERFECTLY IN THE F.L ORIGINAL HOUSING, AND CHEAPER BY ABOUT £35 FOR THE WHOLE KIT!! WHY CHANGE OR FIX SUMMAT THATS NOT BROKEN??? THE PROBLEM LIES WITHIN THE HOUSING THAT BEING, THE DIRTY, BUNGED UP, BLACKENED FILTER! DISGUSTING!:5bpuke: ITS A COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT CONCEPT....BUT ACCORDING TO MANY THREADS WORKS....AND IS FAR BETTER THAN THE F.L FILTER!! AND CHEAPER!!!:D

NO MORE OIL FROM DIPSTICK....ITS PI**ED OF TO WHERE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE!!!! :cheer2:

PROBLEM 3. MASSES OF SMOKE FROM EXHAUST...INTERMITTENT LIGHT GREY/WHITE CLOUD OF SMOG......

WELL DONE THE "NEW FITTED FILTER" NO MORE SMOKE SINCE FITTED!!!. ............KILLED 2 WITH 1!! :mil3:

Gonna have to look at some of these things... just got back from 5 days away... my poor FL has been seriously struggling going up hill... seems fine on flats and general poodling but some of the hills I've encountered over the past few days with a car load of gear has been a bit of a slog. :(... was desperatly hoping I didn' need to do cheddar gorge road going up hill, really don' think we'd have made it!

Don't forget to check your low pressure fuel pump, if it's dying it will make the car struggle up hills.
