Hi All,
Purchased a 1998 Freelander XEI s-wagon a few weeks ago, have noticed lately that when driving normally i can hear what sounds like air coming from the driver side wheel arch area. Also when driving under load / heavy acceleration especially in 5th gear it sounds like the exhaust is blowing ( like a big hole ) but nothing if the car is rev'd at idle or normal driving speeds. This has me puzzled. Could anyone shed some light on it I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance
Scott

Hi Scott, unfortunately I have no idea what your problem may be, but can tell you that people on here get really annoyed when new members just post problems straight away. Get yourself on to the "introduce yourself" area and, er, introduce yourself and your vehicle, then try searching the freelander section for similar problems, if you do start a thread, remember your pleases and thank-you's.

Hi discokids,
Thanks for the reply and your comments have been taken on board, I didn't think yesterday when signing up for the forum. I will head over to ' Introduce yourself' now and introduce myself to the forum.
Thanks
Scott

WELCOME Scott! The air from the driver's side wheel arch area just means that someone's forgotten to replace the fuse for the hair dryer safety-disconnect. It means the dryer is running all the time that the engine is working ;)

Ahem , banter out of the way - no idea about the wheel arch noise, unless there's a rust hole appeared. Regarding the noise when under heavy load - you sure that it isn't induction roar? You know when the engine's sucking hard (oo-eer, Matron!). It more usually noticeable on older cars with twin weber carburettors etc. but here's a little Corsa SRi. 44 seconds on in the vid.. ;)

Hi there Difflock66, thanks for the advice. On taking the car to nice quiet area tonight and really listening and pushing the engine it seems to be more of a knocking noise as though something is loose not blowing. I know what my weekend is consisting of now, Freelander up on the stands and having a good look underneath to see what's going on. Overalls at the ready.

Could it be a viscous coupling fault? What's the tire wear like? The ga-i mean freelander section will be able to help.
