Hi,im looking at buying a 1.8 freelander, very good service history-HG done 2 years ago and transfer box replaced last year.
The cars cheap, looked at it before, clean straight body and tidy interior.my only concern is the fans kicked in after starting it from cold(10 secs).iv'e searched on here and not found any decent answer, only people saying avoid at all cost!!!.are these cars really such a money pit?.checked oil cap for milky gunk(all clear).the cars a 2000 reg with 76000 miles.
any advice please people
Thanks in advance!!!;)

best advice - go for a doozil.

fans kicking in could be air conn, or repeat HGF ( a common occurance).
moneypit - well, they can be.

Thanks for the advice,i'd love a defender but the cars for the missus to trundle to the shops and back with newborn baby.Hold on-iv'e got a plan,we live up in the lake district so we must really need a defender fully kitted out SAS style.(i wish).

you live in the lakes and have a newborn.. what if the weather is appalling, midwinter, roads snowed in and ice everywhere, baby needs a doctor quick but the local one is too busy dealing with old people who didn't put the heating on.. you need a defender....

not that that is ever likely to happen but if it gets a purchase past the wife then it's worth spinning the yarn...

Ha nice one mj but my father in law is a retired doctor and lives all of 100 yards away so maybe i'd be pushin it!!!!!(not the fooked freelander).Anyways what if i bought the freelander and put some k seal in it,if its cheap enough and runs for a year or two,im happy and then pray for snow and get a defender after breakin the boss,er missus into 4x4 life with the freelander.

don't know about freelanders but I wouldn't put k seal in if it can be avoided unless others have good experience with the particular engine.. heard all sorts of stories of cars going very very badly wrong with k seal blocking all the wrong things.. but also know of a couple of engine types where people have used it successfully for thousands of miles....
