Hi everbody , just bought my first range-rover today , its great but the central locking doesn't always work around the car . I have push the buttons down manually , then get out and lock the drivers door .Any ideas where to start looking. Also the cruise control doesn't work .Are there any common problems on this model to look out for . Lastly the air -con doesn't work . Again, is there any common probs . or do I need to take it to a specialist to see if it just wants re-gassing. Thanks.

Hi Bob,

Welcome

Nice car,

Central locking, do the locks try to lock, can you hear the motors?

Cruise control check or leaks in rubber tubes etc. In particular the ends and Tee piece near the EAS compressor.

Can you hear the aircon trying to click in?

Look for recent threads for Aircon problems

Enjoy your car

Fred

Thanks, I d'ont collect it until tomorrow , so will check those things out. My range rover spent its first year in japan ,and has its speedo in kph !Unusually (I think) the bumpers are chromed ! would this have been a special order , as it was for the M.D. of Vickers Ltd. It could of been the start of the grey import trend as it was re-imported into the u.k. in '93 ! :)

Got it wednesday , and I have have had a look around . Firstly the air -con drive belt is missing ! Anybody know the part no.. With regard to the cruise control , there is a tube coming from the bulkhead in front of steering wheel /foot pedal area which runs accross to a tee piece . The tube was off . When I press the cruise control button , it lights up . I have not had a chance to test it again yet. Interestingly , the electric mirrors d'ont work ,and when I looked in the hand book , it stated that the fuse for the mirrors was the same as the cruise control , but to confuse matters when I looked at the fuse layout on the back of the cover it showed a different use for that position ( it showed what looked like a pic. of an engine or something with a line through it !) and that fuse was fine . I couldn't find an electric window fuse on the back of the cover , and all the fuses coincided with the back of the cover , not the hand book , so it may not be the correct hand book ! Any help gratefully received.

The Air Con belt to VinMA -TO 1995 --611612
The fuse for the electric mirror motors and cruise control is C5 10amp
The fuse for Air Con clutch is B7 5 amp,and the radiator cooling fans is B8 and B9 20 amp respectively. In addition to which you have also got Relays etc.A common reason for removing the Air con belt is to achieve better mpg.Hope this helps.

Thanks for that . The only thing is that my fuse layout is different to the book ! Its the same as the back of the fuse cover , which is different to the book . C5 on my layout is a 20 amp , which according to the back of the cover , looks like a picture of a pump or something similar with a diagonal line through it !There is no sign of this type in the book. I have double checked some of the other fuses such as the windscreen wash , and they are definitely different to the book! On the back of my cover there is no diagram of a mirror and motorway sign indicating the fuse I am after .This car was exported to Japan when new , with the speedo in kph , I wonder if this could have anything to do with it .
Another problem I have is that the central locking does not always work .When I turn the drivers side key there is no electric clicking sounds when it is not working . How does the switch make its contact . Does the button go down onto a contact , or is it in the turning of the key that energises it ? Its much the same on the passenger side !Thanks.
