Hi there,

I have just bought myself a 1997 Discovery 1 and have so many questions to ask about what i can do to it.

I shall start with one,

there are two keys, one for the ignition and the other for the doors. is there a way that i can change the barrels so that i have one key fitting all? and on the same subject, is it possible to fit Disco 2 door handles to a Disco 1?

Thank you

oh an welcome to landyzone

on mine ( a P reg )there is only one key for all locks so I presume the previous owner of your has has one or more locks changed in the past, although on the other hand older discoverys may have has two keys like old volvos.

Fitting a new lock set is an expensive option, five doors, fuel filler flap and ignition switch barrel will be required. Better to take the ignition barrel to a locksmith that does vehicle locks and get them to re-profile it to match the key for your doors.

For me, I wouldn't bother as I don't think it's a great issue I only use a key for the ignition and the fuel flap when filling up, the doors are locked/unlocked remotely via the fob.

Thank you all for your replies.

I took receipt of the car today and it came with a remote key fob but he was not using it. there is also a fob on the keys for the immodiliser? i touch a spot ont he steering column before inserting the key? has anyone come across this before?

although it is central locking, this does not include the rear door? could this be a fault, when i open the rear door with the key i do notice that it does relock itself when ever i shut the door?

has anyon any suggestions?

cheers

You don't have to touch anything with the fob to re-mobilise the vehicle just keep it in close proximity to the starter switch.
Can you hear the actuator within the rear door operating ? and does the door pin stay up when you unlock with the key, if it drops down half way then the small sping in the lock has broken. Any way you will have to remove the door card to find out and get things working as it souldn't relock ie the pin should stay up.

Yes, not unusual on after market systems.

When you lock the car, you should hear the actuator in the rear door. If you can, it's the spring in the door latch, About a fiver off ebay. The rear door is the easiest to do.
I've just done three doors on my disco, cos it was blody annoying me!
Good luck.
