Disco 2 New tyres.... lots of noise....

Had a full set of Grabber AT3's fitted last week. Previously the rear two were Grabbers, and the fronts were an unknown make. But, jesus, the noise levels have rocketed in the cab.. Sounds like bad bearings now.

Anyone else fitted AT3 tyres and experienced the same...

A lot of it will depend on what the previous patterns were. General Grabbers are made in H/T, A/T and M/T patterns. If your previous tyres were highway terrain, then it's natural fitting an all terrain tyre is going to generate more noise.
Also, a new A/T tyre with around 10mm of tread will be louder than a worn tyre (H/T or A/T).

Fair enough, I need the off road capability to drive to my field, and round where I live.... Had a new set of Yokohama Geolanders on my Rav4 and they werent this loud...

Its always the trade I'm afraid. The more aggressive the tread pattern, the louder they get. Compounds can also affect the road noise, it may be the Grabber's have a higher cut resistance compared to the Geolander too. From what I'm told, the new A/T3 is a pretty good tyre.

Hmmm, just took it out for a long run... I'm beginning to wonder if its a wheel bearing, or the diff making the noise... Tyre noise is one thing, but this is quite loud.

I've got GG AT3s on our D2 & they're fairly quiet.

I have them all round and don't notice much noise over the v8

Well, Craddocks called today.... New bearing retaining bolts, and hub nuts have arrived. Front wheel bearings and diff seals will be the first to try... I've replaced the oil in the front diff a month ago, so cant be that.. it was thick and brown though. Should also be a new front diff breather pipe with the kit, as I discovered mine has worn through. Been some floods here lately, so water might have got into the diff again. Replacements on the Bay for around 75 quid, so no major worries...

They are pretty quiet tyres in my experience

I’ve got grabber AT on mine and road noise is horrific. Had wheel bearings, prop bearings etc checked, all good. Tyre change next.

Im going to change the bearings, as I suspect they need doing anyway. Ive drained and changed the diff oil already, which was all dark and gloopy. Seals need doing at the same time, but I've only bought some Britpart ones. Road noise is slowly decreasing, although I think Im just getting used to it...

We had 4 new General at3s the other day on an Isuzu, drive it 300 miles after, just as quiet as Bridgestone h/ts. 245/70/16. Maybe tracking is out and its sitting on the edges at the front creating a howl.

I had an ABS light on today, so suspect a bearing issue. Nanocom out with a mate, so will check which one when its back.

8 months later, just a follow up... its a bit late, but the tyres have quietened down, to the point you dont notice them.

Or you've got used to them! I have and still have both Generals an Goodyear ATs , can't tell the difference sound wise.
