I like the outdoors, and am considering doing this as a past time.

Id like to buy an old landy, get it working nice and well and take it up to the lakes or anywhere in the north west really.

Would a manual be the best bet, and i assume an old disco beats an old range rover (vogue) for non roading ability?

Is green laning also done solo? As long as you arent planning anything too dangerous or treacherous to start with...

Cheers :)

NEVER go alone no matter how mild the lane might seem.

..... at least until you've become proficient in self recovery (and have all the equipment to do it)

and don't dismiss the trusty depender from your list of potential purchases

What about more than one person in the same vehicle?

Also, (dont flame me for this!), but what abont non land rovers? Pajero, Shogun, Hilux, Landcruiser etc?

yeah, gerra depender or a 90!!! And if in any doubt at all, walk the lane first

Note to self...must make concerted effort to try and agree with Sean less.

like sean says unless youre a self rcovery expert which a reckon yer aint on account o yere question dont go alone and if you are proficent in self recovery yer still want to have an other with you as recovery can be dangerous nad if it all goes wrong best not to be on yer own

but if yer gets a landy then you probly has a good reliable rescue service - just make sure you got a blackberry so's you can post on ere when yer up to yer axles in an unexpected sityoooo...eh? shun. (eh Heffs n GCJ!!! eh!!!???)

I've laned with a Shogun and I now have a Disco too. The Shogun was capable enough in many situations but its ground clearance lets it down in deep ruts or sticky mud. The Disco will go places that will give the Shogun a nervous breakdown. Don't get me wrong... the shogun out performs my V8 disco in water, but if you are gonna be in water all the time buy a boat!

Please do not go out alone. Jai_Landrover and I went out to a guy the other night who got himself into trouble over at Violets lane ford. If he had had another vehicle with a tow rope he wuld have saved himself a load of strife, and been home in time for dinner rather than just in time to get up for work!
