Hi guys, new here.
I acquired a FL1 TD4 back in 2018 .. 41k miles.
It was all original.
Still AWD, and apart from a few perished bushings, tyres, and rear silencer, didn't need anything else doing.
I regularly swap wheels front to back, to keep the larger diameter tyres on the front, so still on original Viscous Coupling.
I replaced the lift pump around 100k, with filter. Recon Injectors at 140k.
Currently 200k, but has started throwing up a fuel pressure code ... P0190, but only after engine gets hot. I can drive 20 miles or so before it slips into limp mode.

When the engineis hot, if I stop the engine, with just the ignition on, I cannot clear the code with my basic tester. Once it has cooled sufficiently, the code can be cleared, and I can drive normally until it gets hot again. This feels like an ECU issue .... Does anybody have any thoughts?
Leakback test shows slightly worn injectors but increased leak on 1 and 4 when hot... I have stripped them down and ultrasonic cleaned them, they show good mist pattern.
Awaiting set of 4 recon injectors
I have replaced liftpump and filter as it was starting to get noisy, HP pump with regulator, checked all harnesses, replaced fuel pressure sensor(Bosch) and fitted the upgraded harness.

I've found a few older posts with P0190 issues, showing several different resolutions.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful.

Hi,

Check any fuel leak, air in the fuel line ...

Check the HP fuel pump, especially if it had replaced by an used one.
When had you replaced the low pressure pump ? by a cheap one ?

If the engine go to limp mode only when hot ( probably the crankshaft sensor ... ), but it's certainly notting related to the P0190 code.

You have certaintly more than one issue.

The larger diameter tyres should be on the rear, not the front. ;)

From memory PO190 is one of those mystery codes, which has no definitive cure, and often doesn't seem to cause any running issues either.

Could be wiring to the fuel rail sensor, or maybe the O-rings on the HPFP links below for both.

I note though you have changed the fuel rail harness already, so that rules that out unless it's faulty,

I wonder if it's the crank sensor breaking down when it's hot ?
Thanks for the replies
I'll check the crank sensor, but if I remember correctly, that would give me a non start when cranking .... engine starts when hot ... Just in limp mode. It was a genuine LR replacement bypass harness.

When you say "limp mode" there is a warning on the dash board ?
What are the symptoms exactly ? Limited revs, low idle ? Black smoke ? ...

Hi, thanks for the reply .... right, here goes .....
Lack of power, orange engine light on, code registered is P0190.
When started from cold, will run normally for approx 15 - 20 mins, then engine light comes on and off ... and lack of power whilst it is illuminated. Engine surges as soon as it goes out.
If continue to drive, then light comes on permanently, and continual lack of power. Takes about 10 seconds to get to 30mph ....If on a steep hill, then speed drops off and end up crawling in 1st gear 15-20 mph
If stop engine, and just turn on ignition, cannot clear P0190 code whilst hot, MIL stays on even with engine stopped and only ignition turned on. If let engine cool, Orange MIL goes out and I can clear the code before I start the engine.
I have replaced the Lift pump and filter with new, the HP pump, the Fuel rail Pressure sensor(BOSCH) and the Replacement Sensor harness from LR. I did a leakback test and found that 1 and 4 were leaking more when hot.
This evening, I replaced all 4 injectors with a set of Bosch remanufactured units..... problem still persists. But at least I know they are now balanced
After the lamp came on this evening, I removed the ECU, opened it up and cooled it with a freeze spray, in case an electrical fault was occurring when hot .... but the light came on as soon as I started the engine. Same code stored. .. clutching at straws there ..lol.

With your fault reader normally you will have live data, like air presure, boost presure ..., temp ...
When you get the engine light, does the idle rpm is stable ? Can you rev the engine ?

Also there is a small filter, plugged in the oil breather, sometimes it never get changed.

I have replaced the Lift pump and filter with new,

Have you checked the live data that the EDC is seeing from the LP and HP pumps?, you want to look at pressures out of normal range when the malfunction light is on.

It sounds like a sensor or fuel pump is failing when up to temperature, so the EDC is cutting back boost and fuel to avoid damage.
