Hi guys,

I'm new to this site and after reading many posts, I have found it extremely useful! Its nice to find a community of people wanting to help each other out Keep up the good work

I recently (June 2007) purchased a 2000 W reg 4.0 HSE with 76,000 on the clock in White Gold.

My wife and I took it through Europe on a 4,000+ mile round trip and I can honestly say that the trip went as smooth as can be. No major faults whatsoever.

I currently have a few niggling issues that make my car less than perfect and would appreciate some advice on how I can get the issues resolved without too much cost involved. I am very DIY competent and feel that with the right advice I can overcome most tasks.

Now to the issues:-

1) drivers blend motor needs replacing (blows cold air) but passenger is fine. It switches from screen to feet and face vents OK.

2) Coolant always seems to need topping up (up to 1 litre every month) The car is garaged and no signs of a wet floor.

3) On a few occassions I have found some slight dampness in the passengers footwell after using the car the next day. Linked to (2??)

4) A couple of bulbs have blown behind the clock, drivers heater control and AUTO dial (HEVAC Climate control installed)

5) Rear wipe works but wash doesn't. I can't find the water line in the panelling in the boot.

6) Spare tyre well is damp, sometimes has standing water in. Don't know if this is linked to (5)??

7) Rear quarter panel near the fuel filler cap requires a re-spray due to the other half driving through hot wet sticky tar in Europe and then my old man trying all sorts of wonderful things to try and remove it. He removed the tar but also the laquer!! - This issue is just a body shop job for a couple hundred quid.

Mechanically it is healthy, just the above points so I would greatly appreciate some help and advise in relation to the above mentioned.

Thank You in advance and I look forward to receiving your replies

Stef

You could be needing to dig deepish.

Specifically the water loss if there is no obvious sign of the leak.

the water in the footwell could be either blocked air con drain, more likely to be heater o rings if you aint using the air con at the moment, and if its wetter in the drivers side.

blend motors are also costly to fix. there are short cuts for the later 2 repairs, but check out the water loss first to see wots occuring.

All my opinion, and someone more educated than me could tell yer better.

Re 2 and 3 just check at the end of a long run that the radiator hoses are not rock hard and that there is no water after coming out the overflow. High pressure can cause a problem with the heater matrix.

Coolant loss on an LP RR is not always the end of the engine, often it leaks from the hose joints as steam and leaves no trace.Pressure test the system while cold - then look for leaks.Blend motors dont have to cost thousands, just find a decent indepndant, who does not feel the need to remove the whole dash to do the job.(Or charge for it anyway, even if they dont actually do it)

My mate services all my vehicle for me and has worked on a few P38s in his time. I will ask him this week how much he will charge to fit the blend motors if I buy the parts. He's always let me use his garage for tools and knowledge etc so I'm hoping it won't cost the earth. I will show him the various instructions from the net.

I went to Simmonites and for the whole job they quoted me £600 for the blend motors. I thanked them for their quote and promptly left!!

Just remember that it is not necessary to remove the dash to do blend motors,if all goes well 3.5 - 4 hrs is plenty.
