Well, hello everyone...I have to tell you that this site has saved my life over the past two weeks when I took ownership of a freelander 2005 tdi. My girlfriend and I are touring Italy next year for twelve months and wanted a nice 4x4 to enjoy the travel and tow a caravan.....so, I saw this model with 50k on the clock and full service history..a bargain...he says.

I picked it up to be told there was only one key and alarm fob..the other had been lost during a house move.
Anyway, having used a chap before to clone keys for about £30...I wasnt worried..three days later I was handing over £233.00 to a landrover dealer for the new set.
So, even though it was serviced 5k before I bought it, I like to know its all done okay...so, found the crankcase valve...boy was that painfull...but it hadnt been changed since birth...changed the air filter...pollen filter, turbo vent. Went down under to change the oil and filter...well, no one warned me of the engine guard..think my neighbours enjoyed the language as I struggled to gain access to the bolts....putting it back was a killer. Still, filter changed and 6.5 litres of mobil 1 0W40 was inserted. Sounds a treat...almost like a petrol.
When I bought it I was happy with the tyres on it..the front two were new and the rear were original michelin Synchrone with a good few thousand left on them....until this morning . I was reading a thread about tyres on this site...the dangers of having different makes and having the new ones on the front and not the back.....to say it scared the life out of me is an understatement...so, down the local tyre dealer I went. One of the front ones was a synchrone, I assume the spare and the other a budget. Dealer suggested buying 3 michelins to match the front one...but no, michelin dont do the synchrone anymore..seems it was lasting too long..so, he offered the latitude. Now, the reason for the change was to have 4 running tyres the same :bowl:..so having 3 latitude and one synchrone seemed pointless...so I went for 4 Avon rangers to be fitted tomorrow..cost £400.

So, owned the car two weeks and so far have spent around £800....the one bonus is that I managed to get a witter towbar and all fittings off gumtree for £65..put that on yesterday.

Now all I need to do is stop stopping the vehicle every ten miles, getting under it and wrapping my hands around the VCU.

Have to say though...every time I sit in it, it puts a smile on my face.

Next job..fuel filter.

Oh, forgot..cleaned that damned EGR valve.....not bad for a 96 yr old, girlfriend is a russian 24 yr old...see, landrover does have pulling power..lol
