Nice looking motor :)

That tussocky grass doesn't look like Suffolk!

I have got a set of steel wheels that i'm planning on putting AT tyres on, from what ive seen on here thatll give me a bit more clearance?

Suppose it depends on how big they are and whether you can fit them in the arches! I think there are some threads on here that give the biggests sizes that will fit inside arches and clear struts/brake lines with/without mods.

205/80 without any mods, 225/75 or 235/70 with modulars or spacers

As for guards, we make some, sump guards will come, fuel tank guards were only made by Mantec, not worth the grief for me to make them. Oh and we also make lift kits, you can find our stuff on eBay

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't the /80 /75 and /70 bits the wall height of the tyre? Would this not give the wider tyres a smaller diameter and therefore reduce ground clearance?

Not really because the /70 etc is a percentage of the width.

Also, the wider tyres will foul on the suspension without spacers or modulars.

Funny that, I always knew it was relating to the height, but I always thought it was in a unit of some kind! So the actual wall heights are as follows...

205 * 0.8 = 164mm
225 * 0.75 = 168.75mm
235 * 0.7 = 164.5mm

So 235/70 will give negligable lift while 225/75 will give 5mm lift. Presumably the tread height of AT tyres will be deeper than HT, so that will add some lift.

Having talked lift given by the tyres, is this a desirable thing though on the Freelander which does not have a low-range box?

Those calculations are all oversized tyres, here's the comparison to a standard size tyre.

Plus tread is deeper on AT tyres.

And Freelanders are excellent off road (just need to know your limits). :)

Right - just checked what tyres I have as I'm on 15s.

I need advice on tyres, the steelies originally had 195/80/15s on, do i go for that size AT tyre or would it be better putting different size tyre on to get better height and contact patch?

I'd go bigger for a bit of lift, think 215/75/15 would be ok. :)
